PER practices

The practices of PER, of the title of Patron of Recreational Boats (PER) are regulated by Royal Decree 875/2014, of October 10, which regulates the nautical qualifications for the government of pleasure boats.

These are the mandatory practices that are a requirement to obtain the title of Recreational Vessel Pattern.

To obtain the PER degree you have to obtain certificates of having carried out the regulatory practices in an approved nautical school. There are two mandatory practices:

- PER motor tactics : They consist of a minimum of 16 hours in which you will learn docking and undocking maneuvers, anchoring, mooring a buoy, boat government, man maneuvering into the water, etc ...

- PER radio practices : It consists of 12 hours, 4 of theory and 8 of practices in a simulator. In this course you will learn how to handle radio devices on a ship, practice how to make a distress call, how to communicate with other ships, the port, etc ...

The price of PER practices varies greatly depending on the season, the school that teaches them, the school boat they use and their capacity, the province and the ratio of students per instructor or boat. The price range of most schools for these practices is between 180 and 320 euros , depending on the factors described above.

The distribution of total internship time would be divided into eight sections. These being the following:

Section 1. Security and checks before going to sea . Knowledge and management of safety equipment, review of the critical points of the boat and checks prior to departure to sea.

Section 2. Planning of defeat and fire fighting : Identification of the area to be navigated, status and capacity of the crew and interpretation of the weather forecasts. Firefighting issues.

heading 3. Motors and electrical installation. Identification of the elements of the propulsion installation and the electrical installation. Engine start and operation checks.

Section 4. Maintenance of the boat : pollution prevention and cabochon. Maintenance of the boat and its elements. Precautions depending on the material thereof. Antifouling Prevention of marine pollution. Management of ends and basic nodes.

Section 5. Maneuvers : Maneuvers in dock, berths and landslides. Safety speed.

Section 6. Funding , surveillance and control of the defeat Maneuver of funding and control of the direction and rules of the RIPA. Identification of marks and beacons. Reverse heading and precautions in night navigation and with limited visibility.

Section 7. Navigation practical aspects of navigation: such as the determination of the total correction by routing, the situation by delays, routing and GNSS equipment, as well as by graphic estimation. Use of the probe and the slide. Fast positioning on the chart. Recognition of the coast, delays and security veril.

Section 8. Safety maneuvers / Maneuver of man in the water , using the MOB function of the GNSS equipment, and the maneuvers of giving and receiving towing. The precautions in rescue from boat and with helicopters will also be taken into account.

The development of the parts in which the practices are divided should be adapted to the order in which they are established in the relationship, granting some flexibility in the performance of them according to the meteorological conditions and the hours per session of practices and totals indicated. The total hours must be fulfilled and the entire agenda of the practices completed.

Section 1. Security and checks before going to sea

- Safety equipment : Stowage and maintenance of safety equipment. Use of the life jacket and recognition of its elements. Importance of its adjustment and placement. The use of inflatable vests. The lifebuoy, its use and stowage. Flares and rockets, precautions in handling and explanation of their use. Operation of the fog horn and the heliograph. The radar reflector The bilge pump and buckets. The on-board medicine cabinet and its contents.

- Checks before going out to sea: Review of the critical points of the boat: bottom taps, horn, rudder wick, portholes and other openings in the hull. Checks before departure to sea: general condition of the boat, bilge, checking of empty spaces, fuel level, drinking water, battery charge and navigation lights. Documentation on board: Certificate of Navigation, Navigation Permit, certification and proof of payment of the compulsory insurance premium corresponding to the current period. Verification of the maximum number of people on board and the validity of the security elements.

Section 2. Planning of defeat and fire fighting

- Defeat planning: Weather forecast and sea state. Checking the prevailing wind and its intensity. State of the sea and the possibility of breakers. Tides: consultation of the tables and rapid determination of the height by the twelfth rule. Checking the chart of the area to be navigated, shallow water areas and navigation hazards. Section 3. Motors and electrical installation

- Motors : Checking the opening of the sea intakes. Cooling pump Control of possible losses of water, oil or fuel. Oil level. Heaters. Cooler. Coolant level in case of motors with closed circuit. Section 4. Maintenance of the boat, prevention of pollution and cabochon.

- Boat maintenance and pollution prevention: Boat materials: GRP, iron, aluminum and wood. PRFV maintenance precautions: breaks, osmosis and gel-coat covering. Precautions in iron maintenance: oxide and galvanic corrosion. Precautions in the maintenance of aluminum: galvanic corrosion.
