Sailing training practices

If you already have a nautical title and you'd like to govern sailboats of more than six meters in Spain (those of less length do not require any title) you'll need to obtain this certificate. The sail boat sailing qualification practices is regulated by Royal Decree 875/2014, of October 10. It sets which is the program and the requirements that the course should follow. 

It is necessary to do an internship aboard a vessel of an approved school. The titles that can be enabled to govern sailing vessels are all except of the "titulin" or navigation license:

- Basic Navigation Pattern (GNP)

- Recreational Boat  Pattern (PER)

- Yacht Pattern (PY)

- Yacht Captain (CY)

You'll only need to do the sailing training practices once. This rating is voluntary, it is only necessary if you want to sail with a sailing boat.

Sailing practices have a minimum duration of 16 hours.

You'll only need to do the sailing training practices once, this means that if you make this qualification for the title of Basic Navigation Pattern (PNB) and in the future you get a higher title you will keep the sailboat sailing qualification in the upper title.

It is not necessary to take any exam for sailing training practices.

It is only necessary that an approved nautical school certifies that you took the practices and have the necessary knowledge to govern sailing vessels.

The internship program is regulated by specific regulations. It is divided in the next 8 sections: 

1. Theory of sailing: You will learn the basics of the operation of sailing vessels. The different directions of the boat should take depending on the wind and the maneuvers of turning and translucent. Emphasis will also be placed on defeat planning and interpretation of the weather forecast.

2. Rigging and sails: Learning the sailing elements: Rigging, sails, slinging and appendages.

3. Sailing maneuver I: Basic principles of sailing maneuver as well as rigging and undocking of the vessel.

4. Sailing maneuver II:  How the balance influences the operation of the boat, how it reacts to the rudder and the reduction of speed that this implies. The adjustment that the sails will need depending on the course of the boat, and other factors that can influence and in the managing of the vessel. 

5. Sailing maneuver III: In this section you will learn to perform maneuvers of tack and backlight.

6. Advanced sail maneuvering: Maneuvering like faching, anchoring, stopping the boat and then leaving the anchorage with the sailboat.

7. Safety maneuvers: The procedure to be followed in the collection of man in the water while sailing in a sailing-vessel, etc.

8. Sailing navigation safety: Explanation of the usual risks of sailing.
