Skipper training in Croatia – practical sailing training

The perfect training for aspiring skippers

If you want to take the helm yourself and improve your sailing skills, our skipper training is perfect for you. Our professional instructors will teach you all the necessary knowledge to safely and independently steer a sailboat.

Contents of the skipper training

Theoretical basics: Learn the basics of navigation, meteorology and safety when sailing.

Practical training: Put what you have learned into practice by steering the boat, setting sails and performing harbor maneuvers.

Certificate: After completing the course, you have the opportunity to test your knowledge in an exam and obtain an official certificate.
Some sailing experience is required for these training sessions.
A sailing license is not absolutely necessary.

Information on the sailing practice training
For most of these tours, we have a minimum occupancy of 4 guests and occupy the yacht
These sailing practice training sessions (usually on a 4-cabin yacht) have a maximum of 6 guests.

This provides all participants with ample opportunities to improve their sailing skills.

The training courses are suitable for skippers and people who do not yet have a sailing license.
However, it's important that you already have some sailing experience, and it must be clear that this
Practical training weeks are NOT swimming tours, although you can jump into the water occasionally.

  • Plan
During our skipper training courses in Croatia, we practice, among other things:

✔ Harbor maneuvers, also with mooring
✔ Correct anchoring and mooring to buoys
    ✔ Important knots to master
    ✔ Psychology and crew leadership
✔ POB (Person over Board) – correct behavior
✔ Severe weather situations – what to do?
✔ Trip planning, weather reports and much more

Most of these trips have a minimum occupancy of 4 guests. The yacht (usually a 4-cabin yacht) is generally occupied by a maximum of 6 guests.

This gives all participants ample opportunity to actively improve their sailing skills.

Important: These practical training weeks are not swimming trips – even though there are occasional opportunities to swim.

The skipper for this activity speaks german. To participate you must speak one of the languages spoken on board.

Information about our sailing practice training courses

Our sailing practice training often takes place on yachts such as the Bavaria 46 BT, Elan 444 Impression or similar models.
Occasionally, yachts such as the Bavaria 49 BT or the Cyclades 43.4 are also used.

Important: The saloon is never booked as a fixed sleeping place on our trips – it always remains free and is available to everyone on board.

To cover provisions on board and other yacht expenses incurred during the trip, a crew fund (also called "onboard fund") is set up by the guests at the beginning of the voyage. This fund is managed by a crew member.

Typical yacht-related expenses include, for example:
– Diesel consumption (e.g. when there is no wind for sailing)
– Mooring fees (approx. 2 nights in marinas during the trip)
– Meals on board (breakfast, lunch snack, dinner – especially during nights in anchorages)

On average, these costs amount to approximately 150 to 200 euros per person per week.
Restaurant visits are at each individual's own expense and must be paid for separately.

The skipper is – as usual – provided with meals by the crew on board and in the restaurant. He is exempt from contributing to the crew kitty.

Note: All amounts are non-binding guidelines and may vary significantly depending on the trip.

I've been fortunate enough to be able to turn one of my hobbies into a career. That's why I've been working full-time in the yacht charter, crewed sailing, and sailing training sectors for over 30 years. During this time, I've been able to serve thousands of guests. I'm grateful for what has been, for the most part, a wonderful time.
