Villa de Gijón Regatta - El Comercio Trophy

This year our boat participates again in this regatta, the Villa de Gijón Trophy, the oldest race of the Regatta Club, which will include the participation of the best cruise ships, based in Gijón.

We will focus the activity towards learning, improving or perfecting sailing. We will understand how to raise and lower the sails in the safest way, we will trim them to benefit from the wind as much as possible and we will review the different types of sailing that exist.

Plan

Two tests will be held, both on the same weekend, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each.

Hoisting and collection of the sails:
• Location of each rope or sheet for its correct use.
• Prepare and clear the ropes before any maneuver.
• Hoisting of the Major.
• Hoisting of the Genoa.
• Operation of the reel.
• Collection of the Mayor.
• Collection of the Genoa.

Sail trim:
• Tack or sheet sheets safely knowing the tension with which they work.
• Trim the sails optimally depending on the navigation we are doing.
• Maneuver to unwind the boat to right and correct the list.
• Positioning of the crew on deck while sailing.

Types of sailing:
• Upwind navigation 40º-45º.
• Navigation to a quartering 70º.
• Navigation across 90º.
• 110º long navigation.
• 140º fin navigation.
• Closed stern navigation 180º.

Sailing manoeuvres:
• Tacking.
• Jibes.
• Maneuver other ships.
• Stop cranking.
