  • What is the basic maritime safety training course?

    The basic maritime safety training course aims to raise awareness of emergency situations aboard a vessel or vessel and train students to respond to these situations, immediately applying procedures and actions that minimize the Possible dangers

    The certificate of Basic Training in Maritime Safety allows professional maritime work in any type of vessel. It is a certificate that must be obtained by all those who want to work on a ship, such as:
    • Personnel aboard a tourist cruise (Cooks, hostesses, sailors, waiters, artists ...).
    • Professional patterns of pleasure boats. (Instructors, ship transfers, charter patterns)
    • Nautical graduates who want to enable their titles to practice as a patron in tourist or recreational fishing trips.
    • Mariners of ports, clubs or marinas.
    • Helpers of jet ski monitors, diving clubs, nautical activities ...

    In general, any person who performs any work on board a vessel or vessel must be in possession of this certificate.
  • How old is this certificate?

    The certificate of Basic Training in Maritime Safety is valid for 5 years from its obtaining. After that time it is necessary to complete an update course to keep it current.


     
  • How long is the Basic Training in Maritime Protection course and what is its content?

    The basic training course has a total duration of 70 hours, of which 45 hours will be from a face-to-face theory course and 25 hours of practice. The structure of this course is as follows:
    • Survival module at sea in case of abandonment of the ship.
    • Fire prevention and fire fighting module.
    • Module on adoption of minimum competition rules in first aid.
    • Work safety and social responsibilities module

    The course must be done in person in any case. There is no possibility to take this course remotely or online.
  • I have the title of Recreational Vessel Patron (PER), Yacht Patron or Yacht Captain and I want to obtain this certificate to do some paid work, what can I do?

    As of July 1, 2019, holders of a nautical recreational qualification are authorized to perform certain services on board pleasure boats.

    Holders of the Recreational Vessel, Yacht Patron and Yacht Captain who obtain the certificate of basic maritime safety training may perform the following functions:
    • Perform maneuvers and transfers of pleasure boats in ports, beaches or between ports provided that navigation is not performed at a distance greater than 5 miles from the point of departure.
    • Provide transportation services of supplies to other pleasure boats.
    • Perform sea tests of pleasure boats and jet skis.
    • Government of boats destined for lifeguard on beaches.

    In addition, holders of the Yacht Skipper and Yacht Captain titles, with the same certificate, may also:
    • Take tourist and recreational fishing trips, up to a maximum distance of five miles from the coast.

    In addition to obtaining the certificate of basic training in maritime safety, the holders of the nautical titles must have carried out the sailing qualification practices and in the case of the Recreational Vessel Patterns (PER), they must have carried out the practices of extension of PER attributions , which enabled them to govern vessels of up to 24 meters in length.
