Improve your confidence and safety on board with this 3-day navigation through Rías Baixas aboard our sailboat.
Enjoy the Rías Baixas while learning and perfecting your sailing knowledge: sail trimming, anchoring, docking, weather, charts, planning, crew... If you are a skipper or navigator, in this sailing course you will expand the knowledge of nautical qualifications (PER, PNB...), which we all know are very theoretical and are not enough to go out to sea safely and efficiently based on the conditions of each boat and the weather conditions.
It will be a 3-day cruise with 8 hours of navigation per day and, in addition, with time to visit each place we pass by. We will sail on our Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36i Performance, with a length of 11 meters. It is a very fast boat (Performance version with long mast and long keel), with all the maneuvering in dynema and harken returned to the cockpit piano, so it is very easy to navigate and with impressive habitability due to a beam of 3.6 m and its great luminosity.
There will be a maximum of 6 students on board. All our instructors are Professional Recreational Skippers (PPER), sports technicians in sailing, etc.
During the course-journey we will review the following concepts.
1) BOAT:
- Steering. Improve steering ability by adapting to weather conditions. Dangers and advantages of each course depending on sea and wind conditions.
- Bad weather techniques. How to deal with storms safely.
- Sail trimming. Gain an in-depth understanding of sail adjustment based on course and weather (wind and wave intensity).
- Berthing. Use and function of each mooring line, influence of wind, current and propeller pitch on the choice of manoeuvre. Crew organisation.
- Spinnaker sailing (conditions permitting). Hoisting and lowering techniques, gybing and crew coordination during manoeuvres.
2) DEFEAT:
- Trip planning. How to plan your route depending on the weather, as well as the experience and desires of the crew, where to find information. How to study the area and create a route from home.
- Weather interpretation. Reliable mobile applications and digital media, thermal and local winds due to oreography, gusts and roles. Interpretation of the reports to navigate and anchor safely and comfortably.
- Provisions and fuel. Calculation of the needs according to the type and duration of the trip, number of crew members and equipment of the boat.
- Anchoring. Choice of anchoring position according to weather, topography and type of seabed. Safety conditions for the boat and crew during the manoeuvre. Anchoring alarms.
3) CREW:
- Crew management. How to command, teach and transmit safety and confidence to the crew on board.
- Life on board. How to manage and instruct the crew in electrical management, water reserves, fuel, etc. Use of the kitchen, bathrooms, cleaning, order, safe navigation.
- Night navigation. Safety elements for both crew and navigation. Management of guards.
- Knots. Knowing how to make and choose the type of knot for the needs of each moment.
- Distribution of positions. Selection of positions and functions according to the crew and type of navigation.
- Man overboard maneuvers. Implementation of each MOB maneuver while sailing.
