What routes are available for a boat holiday in Croatia?
The map shows the starting point of the activity. In some cases, the location is approximate, not exact.
Frequent questions
  • ⭐ Do I need previous experience to sail with Sailwiz in Croatia?
Not at all! That is exactly what makes Sailwiz special. The vast majority of our guests are first-time sailors looking for their first experience at sea. Our professional skippers handle navigation and safety at all times. If you feel like it, you can help with the sails and learn the basics, but your only real "job" is to relax and enjoy the Adriatic.
  • ✅ What should I pack for a sailing trip in Croatia?
Expert tip: Hard-shell suitcases are a no-go. Space on a boat is limited, and soft duffel bags or cabin bags are much easier to store. Don't forget to pack:
    • Boat shoes or trainers with non-marking white rubber soles.
    • High-factor sunscreen (sun reflection on the water is very intense).
    • A light jacket or windbreaker for nights at anchor in the coves, as it can get breezy.
  • ➡️ Is a sailing trip in Croatia safe for children?
Yes, absolutely. It is an ideal destination for families. The waters along the Croatian coast are very calm, and waves are minimal thanks to the protection provided by more than a thousand islands. For families with young children, we often recommend a catamaran charter, as it offers much more stability (it doesn't tilt while sailing) and plenty of space for kids to move around safely.
  • Travel Tips: Arriving at Split, Zadar, or Dubrovnik Airports
Croatia is excellently connected to major international hubs, especially during the summer season:
    • Split (SPU): The best option for Central Dalmatia routes (Hvar, Vis). It has direct flights from most major European cities (London, Paris, Berlin) and easy connections for US travelers. The airport is just 20 minutes from the marinas in Trogir.
    • Dubrovnik (DBV): The gateway to the south. Ideal if your route includes the Elafiti Islands or Mljet. It offers great direct connections with international carriers.
    • Zadar (ZAD): Very convenient for sailing through the Kornati National Park. It is a favorite destination for low-cost airlines, offering very competitive prices.

  • Why choose a sailing holiday in Croatia?

With over 1,200 islands and nearly 6,000 kilometers of coastline, Croatia is the heart of European yachting. Every year, more than 500,000 travelers choose the Croatian Adriatic for their sailing holiday.

The main reason is the geographic density: distances between destinations are remarkably short. When sailing in Croatia, you rarely spend more than an hour or two at sea before reaching a secluded bay or a charming fishing village. A typical day can take you from the world-famous Stiniva Cove in Vis to the turquoise waters of Lojena Bay in the Kornati Islands, or the exclusive Pakleni Islands off the coast of Hvar.

These short hops allow you to perfectly blend sailing with shore excursions. Must-visit spots include the village of Primošten, the "Little Venice" of Vrboska, and the medieval streets of Korčula. With water visibility up to 30 meters and ideal summer temperatures between 26°C and 30°C, it is a safe and stable paradise for all travelers.
  • What do our travelers say about yacht charter in Croatia?

Our Sailwiz community is clear: 98% of users recommend the experience.

"I was a bit hesitant about booking solo, but with Sailwiz you share the boat with like-minded people. The mix of freedom at sea and evening dinners in local 'konobas' (traditional restaurants) was unbeatable," says one guest after their trip from Split.

Our skippers also emphasize the flexibility: "We adapt the route to the wind and the crew's wishes. If the group wants to spend an extra afternoon in a hidden Vis cove, we make it happen," says Mario, one of our most experienced local skippers.
  • Prices and costs: How much does a sailing trip in Croatia cost?

A holiday at sea is no longer just for millionaires. At Sailwiz, we specialize in cabin charter (booking by the seat), which significantly reduces costs:
    • Average Price: A 7-day trip ranges between €600 and €1,200 per person, depending on the season and boat type.
    • Additional Costs: Keep in mind the "charter pack" or "kitty" (approx. €150-€250 p.p.) for food, marina fees, and fuel. Compared to a hotel, you save on accommodation and inter-island transport, as your "hotel" travels with you.
  • The best routes for sailing in Croatia

Based on Sailwiz bookings, these are the top three routes:
    • Central Dalmatia (from Split): Including Brač, Hvar, and Vis. It is the perfect blend of sailing and social life. Highlights include Zlatni Rat beach and the Blue Cave. The consistent summer Mistral wind makes navigation very reliable.
    • Kornati National Park (from Zadar): A labyrinth of 89 islands for those seeking peace and raw nature. Don’t miss Telašćica Nature Park and the island of Žut, where dinner is enjoyed in remote taverns accessible only by boat.
    • South Adriatic (from Dubrovnik): Focusing on the Elafiti Islands and Mljet National Park. This region is greener and more forested. The anchorage at Polače is a favorite, and temperatures here are often slightly warmer than the national average.
  • When is the best time for a boat rental in Croatia?

The sailing season runs from May to October.
    • High season: Demand peaks in July and August (with water temperatures around 26°C).
    • Expert tip: Our skippers recommend June and September. Marinas are less crowded, prices are up to 30% lower, and the winds are ideal for sailing without being too intense.
  • Which boat is right for you? Sailboat, catamaran, or gulet

The type of vessel defines your experience along the Croatian coast:
    • Sailboat (Monohull): Ideal for sailing purists seeking a sporty feel and classic navigation. They are agile and marina fees are lower. Perfect for couples or small groups looking for an authentic adventure at a great price.
    • Catamaran: Offers maximum stability and vast space—essentially a floating apartment. Its shallow draft allows you to anchor much closer to the beach. The top choice for families or groups prioritizing comfort and social areas.
    • Gulet: The ultimate option for tradition and luxury. These classic wooden vessels are much larger and come with a full crew (captain, chef, and deckhands). Ideal for large groups or families seeking an "all-inclusive" service with large cabins and dining areas.
  • Stress-Free skippered boat rental in Croatia

At Sailwiz, skippered boat rental is our specialty. This means you don't need a license or any previous experience to discover Croatia from the sea. You can book individual spots, private cabins, or the entire boat for your group.

Our skippers are local experts who know the "secret spots" that aren't in the guidebooks. While the skipper handles all the responsibility, you can simply relax or, if you're interested, get involved in the maneuvers and learn the basics of sailing.
  • Top ports for your adriatic journey

    • ACI Marina Split: The most vibrant and convenient starting point.
    • Hvar Town: The "St. Tropez" of Croatia, where luxury meets history.
    • Korčula: The birthplace of Marco Polo, featuring a stunning fortress.
    • Skradin: The gateway to the Krka waterfalls, a must-stop in Central Dalmatia.
