Do you want to start sailing on rental boats or are you going to buy a small boat? The Navigation License is the fastest and easiest way to get started in the nautical world. In addition, you will get it in just six hours and without having to take an exam.

The training is given by the leading recreational nautical school in Madrid and approved by the General Directorate of Merchant Marine, which offers you this course to obtain your Navigation License.

This navigation license will enable you to take pleasure boats up to 6 meters in length and navigate a maximum distance of 2 miles from the coast during the day. You can also drive any type of jet ski (no power limit) as established by Royal Decree 238/2019.

To obtain this navigation license it is not necessary to have any other previous license (equivalent to the old Titulín). The only requirement is to be over 16 years old and obtain a psychotechnical certificate.

    1 block. Theoretical Training — 2 hours
    The Navigation License includes 2 hours of theoretical training where you will learn the essential knowledge to navigate safely and autonomously.

    The training usually takes place on land or on the boat itself, next to the San Juan reservoir, located approximately an hour from Madrid. During the session, you will learn the basic concepts of onboard safety, regulations, navigation, and how to act in the most common situations you may encounter at sea.

    The content follows the official program established by the regulations for obtaining the Navigation License and does not require any exam.

    4 hours
    2 block. Navigation Practices 4 hours
    The training is completed with 4 hours of navigation practices on board a training boat in the San Juan reservoir.

    During the practices, you will take the helm and learn practical boat handling, performing the main maneuvers you will need to navigate safely: docking and undocking, anchoring, mooring to a buoy, man overboard maneuver, and other exercises included in the official program.

    The objective is for you to finish the course having practiced essential maneuvers and gained the necessary confidence to start navigating on your own.

This course is taught in spanish. You must have a sufficient level of this language to be able to follow the course.

The administration requires that the list of students be notified 48 hours before the start of the course, so it is not possible to register at the last minute.

After completing the course and the practice, you must submit or send the original psychotechnical certificate, a photocopy of your ID and 35.09 euros for the management of the license issuance at the school.

  • Once the license is obtained, how often do I have to renew it?
    • The Navigation License does not expire. You will need to obtain a psychotechnical certificate when obtaining it, but unlike nautical qualifications, the license is valid forever.

  • Do you have time in this course to learn to drive a boat? How many students are there per group?
    • It gives the time that they can give 3 hours more less on the boat, more quality and commitment from the teacher cannot be asked for but three hours give what they give.
