Theoretical and practical course in Isla Canela to learn about new technologies applied to ocean navigation, related to meteorology, on-board computing and planning of navigation routes, taking into account the characteristics of the ship.
Unique opportunity to sail on a new high performance sailboat, a Pogo 44.
Aimed at sailors who want to gain experience. We will be able to learn practical things related to sailing on the high seas. We will learn to use the latest navigation technologies on a newly built, high-performance sailboat.
We will review and put into practice our knowledge of ocean meteorology and climatology from a sailing perspective. Together we will look at the basic meteorological knowledge needed by sailors competing in large ocean races: weather routing, grib file download, CPA simulations and calculation, sail selection, sail trimming...
We will also discuss on-board computing, downloading nautical charts, existing navigation software, and the latest technology that is revolutionizing ocean and offshore navigation, such as:
Basic weather prediction tools: surface and 500 hPa analysis maps.
Numerical models for weather and wave prediction. Parameters of interest for navigation.
Software for data acquisition and processing of prediction models.
Navigation and routing software; Weather routing.
Establish a navigation plan based on data analysis and gribs files.
Making polar fleece.
Practical cases.
