Sailing trip to Alicante to see the Ocean Race

The Ocean Race is one of the most important team regattas internationally. Its participants face the enormous challenge of sailing around the world. Historically, the regatta has been an effort for many of the best sailors in history. What stands out from this adventure is the enormous adrenaline they feel from spending so many days on board a boat under the conditions that such a high-level regatta requires.

The mechanics of the regatta is simple. It is an ocean marathon, a race that goes around the world in an anti-clockwise direction.

As a novelty in this next edition, there will be two classes of boats: the high-tech IMOCA 60 and the VO65 one-design. The new IMOCA 60 sailing boats are high performance, with foils that are powered by a 100% renewable energy source.

During the week prior to departure, in the port of Alicante you will be able to observe a multitude of activities from the water: boat training, optimist regattas and cruise ships or the start of the Ocean regatta to Cape Verde.

Plan

The planning is different depending on the day for which you book. They are all sailing trips aboard our boat, lasting between 4 and 5 hours. The ideal is to stay a little before departure to go with time and not miss anything.

Day 1 (10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.): Cruisers Regatta
Day 2 (1:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.): Departure of the VO65 boats and the IMOCAs
Day 3 (2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.): Boat training for the Ocean Race start
Day 4 (1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.): Optimist Regatta
Day 5 (11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.): Official Ocean Race Start

ATTENTION: the reservation only gives the right to attend the departure of the reserved day, not all the planned days. If you want to sail every day, you will have to make a reservation per day.

It was the second time I did this type of journey. Our skipper was not Jorge. I missed planning to see more coves and take advantage of the days. The day we went to a single cove in Ibiza, it was wasted, because we spent more time sailing to find the cove. I would propose to focus the journey on getting to know a single island.
