60-mile sailing course to the Columbretes Islands

We are going to take a course to technically understand the reasons why a sail pushes and is able to make the boat sail against the wind. We will understand the function of the centerboard and its center of pressure, the sail centers, how to move them and the rudder blade. We will understand the functions of the main controls (sheets) and the secondary controls (halyards, outriggers, sheet cars and backstay tensioners).

We will also learn how to enter and leave a large commercial port like Castellón at night; we will learn its lights and how to recognise ships at night, whether they are approaching or moving away.

And don't worry about the cold, we have heating in all cabins.

Plan

Friday:

At 7:30 p.m., check-in at the Castellón Yacht Club. Instructions on the voyage, life on board and safety, Navigation Theory and, then, dinner orchestrated by the Captain. We slept in our heated cabins.

Saturday:

We set sail at 7:00am for the Columbretes Islands. As it will be at night, we will see the Port with its nocturnal appearance, we will recognize the lights and we will exit through the Port Traffic Device. We'll have breakfast on the way. Here we will put into practice the Navigation Theory learned the day before and we will also give a course on “Person to the Water”: how to stop the boat both by sail (put the Pairo) and by motor. We'll do a simulation of a rescue. Arrival around 1:00 p.m. We will eat on board and, in the afternoon, we will go down the Dingui and go on an excursion to the guided tour of Isla Grossa. We will return to dive in the bay of Isla Grossa. We will have dinner and, later, we will leave the lights off to accommodate the vision of the night sky and we will talk about the Captain's talks on Astronomy.

Sunday:

We had breakfast on board, a swim and at 11.00 am we set sail for Castellón and continued our sailing practices. We will arrive at the Port at night to learn to recognize the entrance lights. Estimated time of arrival between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

All crew members are welcome, even if they do not know the language spoken on board (spanish)

CONDITIONS OF THE TRIP:

* Minimum number of participants:

The departure will be confirmed with a minimum of 4 people signed up.

* Mandatory extra expenses:

Meals, snacks, drinks and refreshments, fuel, skipper and final cleaning = 100 €/person.

NOTE: All of these expenses are mandatory:

The Shipowner's Cabin has a supplement of €50 per person. If no one reserves it expressly, it will be automatically assigned to the last two passengers to confirm their seat, who must pay the corresponding supplement.

These extra expenses are calculated based on the full occupancy of the boat (6 seats).

If it is not 100% occupied, the expenses will be adjusted proportionately.

Reservation and payment:

* To confirm the reservation, the amount indicated on the page must be paid through Sailwiz.

* The rest of the payment will be made directly to the captain upon boarding.

Cancellation:

* Up to 30 days before departure: 100% refund.

* Between 30 and 15 days before: 50% refund.

* Less than 14 days before departure: no return.

Boat details

Installations: photovoltaic installation, 230 V - 3 KVA inverter, 1000 Ah lithium batteries, desalination plant, water treatment plant, induction cooker, microwave/convection oven, dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator, freezer and heating.

Electronics: GPS-Plotter, AIS, Autopilot and Radar with Doppler system.

The ship has the Office of the Captaincy of Castellón. This means that you have all the documents in order, including, but not limited to: Passenger insurance, civil liability and that all safety devices are checked. We attach the current certificate.

Smoking is prohibited on board.

With Jaime we have learned a lot about sailing. Skipper very concerned about safety on board. Special mention of the food: exquisite. About Columbretes: spectacular location, although you can only go down to the island for the 1-hour guided tour. The night in the busy bay, the boat moved a lot.
