Course offered by Enrique

Available in English
The objective of the course is to teach future deep-sea and oceanic sailors, whatever their nautical qualification, to find Earth following a method with the only help of the Sextant, Spanish Nautical Almanac and Wristwatch; without the need to use a calculator, PC, tablet or GPS.
Differentiate the main Constellations and Stars in the Firmament, with the naked eye.
Students will work in pairs, so that while one takes the Altitude, the other times the time and records the data obtained. For this purpose, two Polar Heights will be taken, one during the Evening Twilight and the other during the Morning Twilight; and two Meridian Altitudes of the Sun, on consecutive days.
Students will come provided with the following material to follow the Course:
- Sextant, at least 1 per couple (Petrel brings his own).
- Spanish Nautical Almanac 2021, at least 1 per couple.
- DIN A4 squared notebook, pencil, pen, eraser and sharpener.
- Bevel or square.
- Drawing compass.
- Wristwatch with second hand.
- Front with red light.

Other information
Course taught by Juan Ramón Pina, doctor. pharmacist, Yacht Captain and PPER.

I started sailing with my 5.5 m BAKUNIN. in length, making long journeys the old-fashioned way: without electronics, or autopilot, or depth sounder, or radio. Astronomical Navigation finished fulfilling all my aspirations as a navigator, training that allowed me to go beyond the Mediterranean and carry out my ocean voyages, which I have never stopped practicing.

At present I am dedicated to the training of navigators in Cruises of Height and Crossing the Atlantic, always following the Petrel Method: guards, kitchen, emergency medicine, sail sewing, sextant and blank letters.

I am passionate about the Sea and Navigation. I have been sailing since I was a child and I have been a sailor, an activity that I still practice when work and family allow me.

Boat details

Imagine a sailboat where the interior habitability will make you feel comfortable throughout the day, because the Bavaria 46 is characterized by its spaciousness, where you can fully coexist during crossings of several days comfortably.

To that add the pleasure of sailing in a fast boat, with a very noble handling and capable of transmitting the best sensations when sailing.

With all this, add the advantage of being at sea, being able to enjoy the sun on your deck and a sunset while we prepare dinner in your large bathtub at the stern.

And as icing on the cake, the company and the feeling of being free while sailing.

Nuestro patrón fué Andrés. Gran navegante y gran persona. La travesía muy recomendable, aún que faltó viento, pero eso es impredecible. Aún así, lo pasamos muy bien. Muy interesante la iniciación al sextante y la visita a la bodega con cata estuvo genial
