You are going to experience an authentic maritime expedition, not a simple boat ride. You will spend four days living together on board a sailboat, sharing spaces, moments of intense sailing and quiet moments at anchor or in port.

Calm pace but with stages of several hours of sailing, partly at night.

Four days and three nights of sailing from Marina Badalona to the Ebro Delta to experience the total solar eclipse from the Mediterranean.

Guidance program: the route, ports of call, activities and schedules may be modified for meteorological, maritime, operational, regulatory or safety reasons. The final decision will always be up to the boss.

Program

Stage 1. Day 1: Marina Badalona – Port Calafat

Morning meeting at Marina Badalona, luggage organization, distribution of spaces onboard, and safety briefing before starting the navigation towards Port Calafat.

It will be a long sailing leg along the Catalan coast. Timings will be approximate and will depend on the wind, sea conditions, and the average speed of the vessel.

Arrival at Port Calafat is expected during the afternoon or at dusk. We will spend the first night onboard with the sailboat moored in the port.

Stage 2. Day 2: Port Calafat – Total Eclipse – Port Calafat

Departure is scheduled around 09:00 from Port Calafat. We will sail towards the Ebro Delta to explore its coastline and enjoy, from the sea, one of the most unique natural landscapes of the Mediterranean.During the journey, we will be able to contemplate the extensive beaches of the Delta, the low profile of the territory, and its wide open horizon. The navigation will be part of the experience before reaching the total solar eclipse observation area.Recreational Trolling FishingWhile sailing, and whenever safety, the route, and current regulations allow, we can deploy two rods and practice recreational trolling fishing.Trolling consists of sailing while dragging lures behind the sailboat. It is a participatory modality that allows learning how a fishing line is prepared and worked from a boat, always under the supervision of the skipper.The activity will be directed only at species whose fishing is authorized. No catch can be guaranteed, and catch and release will be prioritized whenever possible and safe for the fish.Any fishing activity will be subject to licenses, authorizations, closed seasons, minimum sizes, and other applicable regulations at the time of the excursion.

Stage 3. Observation of the total eclipse from the sea

The route will continue towards an area located within the band of totality, selected according to cloudiness, visibility, wind, sea state, and maritime traffic.

Once in the chosen area, there will be time to rest, enjoy the surroundings, prepare cameras, and organize the eclipse observation.

Sun observation will be carried out with approved glasses. Cameras, binoculars, or telescopes cannot be pointed directly at the Sun without using specific and appropriate solar filters for each piece of equipment.

After the eclipse, we will begin the night navigation back to Port Calafat. Arrival is scheduled during the night, although an exact time cannot be guaranteed.

We will spend the second night on board with the sailboat moored in Port Calafat.

Stage 4. Day 3: Port Calafat - Tarragona or nearby port

We will undertake a shorter and calmer coastal leg, with the possibility of making a stop for a swim if maritime and weather conditions allow.During the navigation, we will approach the area of the red tuna aquaculture facilities of l’Ametlla de Mar to observe them from the sea, always maintaining a prudent and safe distance.The approach will be carried out without interfering with the activity of the facilities, without accessing restricted areas and avoiding any risk to the vessel, participants, and aquaculture structures.This part of the route will depend on maritime traffic, sea conditions, current regulations, and the skipper's discretion.Arrival is expected in the afternoon in Tarragona or a nearby port. We will spend the third night on board with the sailboat moored.

Stage 5. Day 4: Tarragona or nearby port – Marina Badalona

We will start the return navigation towards Marina Badalona in the morning, enjoying a final day of sailing along the Catalan coast.

Arrival is scheduled for the afternoon or evening, depending on the departure port, wind, and sea conditions. An exact arrival time cannot be guaranteed, so participants should have the full day available.

The expedition will conclude upon disembarking at Marina Badalona.

Boat details

The Furia 37 is a Spanish sailboat from the early 80s and 90s designed as a cruiser-regatta: fast enough to compete and comfortable for sailing with the family or traveling.

It was designed by Michel Joubert and Bernard Nivelt and built by Dresport. Its design reflects many ideas from the IORS of the time, with a thin fairing, relatively wide stern, elliptical keel and rudder, and a powerful sail plane. At the time, he performed well in cruise regattas and can still be competitive at the club level today.

One of its strengths is its sailing behavior: it is a stable boat, hard to shore, effective in girdling and fast in load-bearing directions. The Regatta version reached about 81 m² of girdled sailing, with a displacement of approximately 8,050 kg, a very sporty combination for a 37-foot boat of that time.

At the same time, the Furia 37 stands out for its more refined interior than many of its French competitors. The usual layout prioritizes space and comfort, with an aft cabin, large bathroom, kitchen, navigation table and convertible living room. Interior carpentry is one of its strengths.

Its main characteristics are: 11.85 m in total length, 3.74 m in width, 2.12 m in draft, 6,050 kg of displacement, 2,350 kg of ballast, 330 liters of water, 125 liters of diesel and engines usually between 23 and 50 hp.
