Daily life on board is dominated by offshore sailing: We sail in watch systems, practice night sailing, deepen our knowledge of navigation and meteorology, and gain experience in dealing with Atlantic conditions. This cruise offers the ideal conditions for mileage collectors and sailors who want to expand their skills on longer trips. At the same time, there's still time for communal life on board and the special New Year's Eve celebration.
In winter, the Canary Islands and Madeira are home to the consistent northeast trade winds, which provide strong and consistent winds. Atlantic swells, currents, and the open sea make this cruise challenging and varied. Daytime temperatures are usually around 20 degrees Celsius—pleasantly mild for the time of year.
Our yacht, the Sun Odyssey 389, has three cabins plus a saloon and a bathroom. Equipped with an autopilot, chart plotter in the cockpit, bow thruster, and new sails (2024), she is perfectly equipped for an Atlantic crossing. Comforts such as heating and a cozy galley ensure pleasant hours both on and below deck. Spinnakers and gennakers are on board for days with less wind.
