Tour details:
• Date: Saturday, October 11, 2025, 5:00 PM to Saturday, October 18, 2025, 10:00 AM (8 days)
• Route: Cartagena - Gibraltar, approx. 250nm
• Requirements: Desire to collect miles

On this leg, we'll sail a 53-foot ocean-going yacht from the vibrant Spanish city of Cartagena to the historic enclave of Gibraltar. We'll cover a total of approximately 250 nautical miles and get a taste of offshore sailing and life on board during long tacks. Stops will be made along the way depending on the weather, your mood, and your interests.

We'll sail through the night or two, learn the watch system, and study meteorology and navigation in detail to adapt our route to the conditions as best as possible. This trip is suitable for beginners, advanced sailors, and those with mileage. As a Berlin sailing school, we always focus on training and learning.

  • Plan
In October, more wind can be expected in this sea area than in the often calm summer. Autumn brings freshening mistral conditions and an increasing influence of the western Poniente in the Strait of Gibraltar. On this cruise, we are particularly dependent on the interplay between the Poniente and Levante winds. Dolphins are among our constant companions, and migratory birds can be observed over the Mediterranean.

Pilot whales are also frequently seen along our route. In Gibraltar, there will, of course, be time to stroll through the old fort and take a beautiful sunset hike up the only mountain in Europe where wild monkeys live.

An experienced skipper and instructor not only steers the boat, but also involves the crew in all aspects of planning and executing the cruise. The yacht has four double cabins and four bathrooms. The Jeanneau 53 is a fast-sailing yacht in all conditions. A spinnaker is on board for days with less wind.

My sailing and sports boat school is in the middle of Berlin. Here you will learn to sail, drive a motorboat and radio, as well as prepare for a trip on the high seas.
I have been passionately running the sailing school with my team since 2006.

Boat details

Our Jeanneau 53 is a well-equipped cruising yacht, just under 16 meters long. It features five cabins, a spacious saloon with a galley, and ample storage space for longer trips. With a hull speed of over 9 knots, average speeds of 7.5 knots are not uncommon in light winds, making long tacks comfortable. If we have less wind, we'll take out the symmetrical spinnaker!

The ship offers plenty of space on and below deck, making it suitable for both leisurely cruising and longer distances. At anchor, there's always enough room for cooking, eating, swimming, and even yoga on deck. The technical equipment includes modern navigation electronics and all necessary safety precautions for coastal and offshore sailing.

A great sailing and water sports school. I obtained my SBF-See, SBF-Binnen/Segel and UBI/SRC here. Friendly, patient trainers who use their experience and skills to get you to the required exam level. Despite the training, there is still plenty of fun and they take the time to respond to special requests/concerns. I would love to come back here to broaden my maritime horizons.

The theory compact course (in my case SBF Inland) is really very good and prepares you ideally for the exam and beyond.
I also really liked the friendly trainers during the practical training sessions. This meant I was able to pass both exams straight away.

Very good preparation for the exam and future sailing experiences. You can see that all the trainers are very passionate about what they do.
There are always reports of experiences and additional theoretical background on all exam-relevant topics, so that you feel very well prepared the first time you are alone on the boat.

I just did my SBF inland sailing/motor here.
Great people, pleasant atmosphere. The teachers are easy-going, but still competent and can show you what is important when sailing.
If you don't feel completely confident with certain maneuvers, just ask. There is no rigid curriculum that has to be followed. You can decide for yourself where you need more practice.
As you gain experience, you will spend some time on board with just other students. This helps you to feel responsible for the boat and the maneuvers and to coordinate with the other students. But don't worry, a boat with a teacher is always nearby if something goes wrong or you have any questions.
