Todos los títulos tendrán una validez de cinco años, pudiendo revalidar por igual período de vigencia. Esta revalidación efectuará mediante la acreditación de uno de los siguientes requisitos:

- Haber realizado un período de embarque de, al menos, un año dentro de los últimos cinco años, o de tres meses en el último año, efectuando funciones equivalentes del certificado a revalidar.
- Haber superado un curso de actualización reconocido por la Dirección General de la Marina Mercante.
