Kefalonia and Ithaca are islands where it's easy to get lost along the uninterrupted series of charming bays and are ideal destinations for a sailing holiday in Greece.
Our journey begins in the lively Gulf of Argostoli, where it's not uncommon to encounter beautiful turtles. Traveling along the island's western coast, we'll admire the wild bays protected by stunning white cliffs. The charming village of Assos will be our first port of call at the end of a journey featuring rugged coastlines and hills covered in cypress and pine forests. Assos is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque villages on the island: a small amphitheater of rock and pine trees encloses a handful of cream and ochre houses overlooking the sea, with lively bars and cozy tavernas. The bay is protected by a mighty fortress, which can be visited with a short walk through the surrounding woods. The bays preceding the one in which the village is located are excellent for a night at anchor. Our next stop will be Emblissi Bay. After a refreshing swim, we'll arrive in Fiskardo, Kefalonia's most exclusive town, nestled in a beautiful bay on the island's eastern coast, facing Ithaca. Fiskardo retains an Italian-inspired charm. A beautiful sail through the channel between Kefalonia and Ithaca will take us to the Gulf of Sami, from where we'll set out to discover Ithaca, the mythical homeland of Ulysses or Odysseus, its king, one of the Achaean heroes featured in the Iliad and the Odyssey. We'll dock at Vathy, Ithaca's commercial heart, whose true charm comes from the nearby, beautiful beaches of Louza, with the picturesque seaside chapel of Agios Andreas and the magnificent stretch of white sand of Gidaki. After casting off, we'll sail up the Ionian Sea to the island of Atokos, small but rich in beaches and caves, and from there to the islands of Lefkada and Meganisi, which compete for the most beautiful beaches and gulfs. We'll anchor in one of these for the night. The next day, we'll come within sight of Skorpios, once home to the billionaire Onassis. A beautiful sail will take us through the narrow passage between Lefkada and the mainland. Here, we'll cross a spectacular swing bridge. After a few miles of sailing, we reach the splendid bay of Preveza. Our final destination.
