Stage 1: Bonaire → San Blas
Pure adventure! We'll start by enjoying Bonaire's relaxed climate – clear skies, turquoise waters, and gentle northeast trade winds. Between January and April (the best time to travel), we'll take advantage of the wind for our first offshore leg: about 500 nautical miles northwest.
After a weather window with moderate winds, we set off towards San Blas, passing Curaçao and the Colombian coast.
Crew work & tactics: Night watches, course control, and wind management are essential. With a constant trade wind of 20-25 knots, we sometimes sail very fast. The yacht demonstrates its capabilities here – high seaworthiness and comfort in the Caribbean Sea.
Stage 2: San Blas Islands - Island Hopping & Culture
Next we reach the protected Guna region of Guna Yala, an archipelago of 365 islands, of which about 50 are inhabited.
In El Porvenir or Carti we turn in, pay the local tax and make contact with the Kuna - encountering their traditional wooden canoes, molas and the lived principle of community.
We sail through Cayos Limón, Holandeses, Coco Bandero & Blanco – each stop offers new snorkeling spots, picturesque beaches and wildlife encounters (nurse sharks, colorful reefs). Navigation among the corals requires vigilance and knowledge.
Evenings under palm trees, Guna cultural evenings, and BBQs on the beach round off our sailing stages.
Leg 3: San Blas → Panama (Shelter Bay)
After a few days of island fun, we make the final move:
40-60 nautical miles along the coast to Shelter Bay.
Finally, we enjoy Shelter Bay Marina - with jungle, monkeys, parrots & a family atmosphere.
