From the beautiful island of Madeira, we sail southwards across the North Atlantic.
After a two- to three-day crossing, we practice some maneuvers and prepare for the practical SKS exam. Bluewater sailing, a long passage using the watch system, is a very special experience and good preparation for further sailing trips.
During the crossing, we sail day and night on a watch system. Everyone on board is involved in navigation, weather observation, sail handling, and daily life on board. After the Atlantic crossing, we use the remaining time to intensively practice the maneuvers relevant for the exam and to explore the Canary Islands from the water.
This sailing trip is aimed at sailors who already have some experience and want to specifically prepare for the practical exam for the Sport Coastal Skipper's Certificate. In addition to maneuver training, the focus is also on gaining confidence in handling a vessel and experiencing longer stretches at sea.
At this time of year, temperatures around Madeira and the Canary Islands are very pleasant to warm. However, wind, waves, and weather conditions on the open Atlantic can be challenging. Therefore, the exact route between the islands depends on the current conditions and the progress of exam preparation.
On March 4, 2027, the official examiners will come aboard in San Miguel and administer the practical SKS exam on the yacht where training took place. The voyage will end the following morning.
