Crossing from Ayamonte to Athens, in stages

Aimed (preferably) at sailors with some experience, who have previously made voyages of at least 50 miles.

We will navigate day and night until each stage is completed. We will learn to use the latest navigation technologies on a newly built, high-performance sailboat.

We will review and put into practice our knowledge of ocean meteorology and climatology from the perspective of sailing. Together we will see the basic knowledge of meteorology that sailors who compete in large ocean races need.

Weather routing, grib file download, CPA simulations and calculation, sail selection, sail trimming.

Likewise, we will talk about on-board computing, downloading nautical charts, existing navigation software, and the latest technology that is revolutionizing ocean and deep-sea navigation:
• Basic weather prediction tools: analysis maps on the surface and at 500hPa.
• Numerical weather and wave prediction models. Parameters of interest for navigation.
• Software for acquiring and processing data from prediction models.
• Navigation and routing software; weather routing
• Establish a navigation plan based on the analysis of data and gribs files.
• Polar fleece making.
• Practical cases.

Those interested will be able to attend with their own laptop PC to carry out practical exercises.
