Riding the waves on a sailboat gives you a deep understanding of the beauty and magnitude of the ocean. The waves on this journey are very long and slowly slide under the keel of the boat. As you relax in the slow swell of the Atlantic Ocean, you will encounter more amazing marine fauna: oceanic seabirds that will accompany us at all times, schools of flying fish, tuna fishing schools of fish and cetaceans of all kinds.
Madeira is awe-inspiring. Geologically, it is a spectacular archipelago, with islands bursting with exotic colours and always warm under the sun. Pearl of the Atlantic, island of eternal spring… Madeira well deserves the imaginative nicknames it is given.
From this group of Portuguese islands, we will sail to the Canary Islands, another of the jewels that the wide Atlantic Ocean offers us.
This is the second stage of a longer journey that consists of 5 stages in total, throughout which we will explore true nautical paradises.
You can check out all the stages here on Sailwiz and sign up for one or more:
- Stage 1: from Baiona to Madeira.
- Stage 3: from the Canary Islands to the Azores.
- Stage 4: through the Azores.
- Stage 5: from Azores to Baiona.
The voyage is made on board a 22-metre steel ketch, which is spacious, safe, solid and easy to navigate. There is room for 10 passengers on board, and they can spend the night in comfortable cabins. Below deck there is also a large day area, where meals are served. The wheelhouse has comfortable sofas with panoramic views.
The crew consists of an experienced captain and a bilingual first officer (English and Spanish at least), so that there is always someone on duty.
On board we will teach (to all those who dare) the profession of navigator, with the possibility of certifying your knowledge with the RYA Competent Crew, Watch Leader and Navigation & Seamaship titles. There will also be classes in astronomical navigation and the possibility of doing the miles necessary for the Yacht Master Offshore, Yacht Master Ocean and PPER titles.
This is a trip for active travelers, we sail together on this boat. No sailing experience is required, but an active and open attitude is. We teach you everything you need to know along the way, from sailing to steering the boat, and you disembark like an old sea dog.
Naturally, there will also be plenty of time to relax, read a book and have stimulating conversations with fellow passengers. We sail into the night and everyone on board is assigned watches. This way, we can continue sailing and everyone on board the ship will have enough time to rest, eat and sleep as well as sail. However, nights at sea are magical. Due to the complete lack of light pollution, you are not just stargazing – you can see the entire Milky Way spread out before you.
Arriving at port after a long sea voyage is an experience like no other. Try walking upright with those newly acquired sea legs!
