Ocean School/Crossing/Mile building: Puerto Rico to Bermuda

From Puerto Rico, in the Caribbean Sea, we will sail to the Bermuda Islands.

We will sail under the trade winds, pushing ourselves forward from strength to strength and the summer temperature.

The arrival to the Bermuda archipelago is wonderful. Geologically they are spectacular, brimming with exotic colors and always warm under the sun. Probably the most mythical and mentioned diverse archipelago in the North Atlantic.

The voyage takes place aboard our large, safe, solid and easy-to-navigate 22-meter steel Ketch. On board we will board a maximum of 8 passengers, each with their own single bed. In the living room, a large multipurpose day area where we teach meteorology classes, meals are served and a cozy room in our spare time.

The crew consists of an experienced captain and a first officer, both bilingual (English and Spanish at least), so that there is always a person in charge on duty.

On board we will teach (to all those who dare) the profession of the sailor, with the possibility of certifying your knowledge with titles such as RYA Competent Crew, RYA Watch Leader and RYA essential Navigation & Seamaship. In addition, there will be the possibility of making the necessary miles for the RYA Yacht Master and PPER qualifications.

This is a voyage for active travelers, we sail the boat together. We teach you everything you need to know along the way, from safety, life on board, navigation, etc., to steering the ship.

Prior coastal and night sailing experience is required.

Naturally, there will also be plenty of time to relax, read a book and have stimulating conversations with fellow travelers.

During the night we will have a guard regime. This way, we can continue sailing 24 hours a day and everyone on board the ship will have enough time to rest, eat and sleep. Nights at sea are magical; due to the complete lack of light pollution, you're not just stargazing: you can see the entire Milky Way in front of you.

Arriving in port after a long sea voyage is an unparalleled experience and a first impression on each crew member's personal ocean voyages.

Plan

Boarding: from 10:00 a.m. on the day of departure in Puerto Rico/Isla Culebra (we still recommend boarding the day before departure).

Disembarkation: From 15:00 on the last day in Hamilton (Bermuda).

Type of navigation: Ocean formation.

The first full day we will conduct a full safety briefing with on-board practices in the use of material, safety protocols, MOB, hazards and precautions on board, description of the lifestyle on board.

After the briefing, we set sail for our destination and took the rest of this day in stride to integrate into the ocean routine and get acclimated to the ship.

Starting on the third day, we started the training mentioned in the previous section to our destination.

While we are ocean sailing, our energy reserve is low. Therefore, learning will take place in short blocks and in a relaxed environment. Every day, independently, meteorological analysis will be carried out as a team, a review of critical points of the ship, trimming and rotating management of the ship.

Other information

All crew members are welcome, even if they do not know the language spoken on board (english, portuguese and spanish)

A box will be made on board to share expenses with a value of 50€/day per person on board.

We recommend that each crew member bring a relatively fat bag (prepared for temperatures between 5 and 10º). Better than about being cold.

Watch out! The departure will be confirmed one week before boarding. We are looking for favorable winds from the day of departure, so we cannot guarantee exactly the day of departure.

Boat details

70-foot steel ocean sailboat equipped with ketch and designed by German Frers, one of the most prestigious naval designers of all time. The boat is a commission for his brother, who wanted a boat to sail around the world easily, comfortably and safely.

The boat is in perfect sailing condition, it has received different refits throughout its history, the last of which in 2024 in which the entire electrical system and wiring of the boat were changed. Complete with main engine and generator, autopilot, mats, sails, fixed and mobile rigs, etc... the boat was dry for 12 months for this refit and was prepared for ocean sailing school.

The crew is comprised of 2 experienced RYA instructors so that one is always on call.

Our instructors have a lot of experience not only sailing but also teaching, they are patient, technical and sensitive to the different characters that may be on board.

Boat equipment: Unlimited oceanic Zone 1 with all the safety measures recommended by MCA and RYA.
