Daily life on board is characterized by intensive sailing: We work together on passage planning, sail in watch systems, practice night sailing, and train in navigation, meteorology, and seamanship. This cruise is a valuable experience, especially for mileage collectors and sailors with offshore ambitions, as it closely combines the theory and practice of ocean crossing.
In late autumn, steady trade winds await us north of the Canary Islands, which usually carry us reliably to Madeira. Atlantic swells, currents, and possible weather changes make this crossing challenging and varied. Madeira itself welcomes us with a mild climate, lush greenery, and safe harbors—a charming destination after a challenging passage.
Our yacht, the Sun Odyssey 389, features three cabins, six berths, a saloon, and a bathroom. With an autopilot, GPS plotter in the cockpit, bow thruster, and new sails (2024), she is perfectly equipped for longer offshore cruising. Comforts such as heating, a sprayhood, and a bimini ensure a pleasant onboard experience even in changeable conditions.
