Course offered by Jaime

Contact
We are going to take a 120-nm intensive sailing course to technically understand the reasons why a sail pushes and is able to make the boat sail against the wind.

We will understand the function of the Daggerboard and its Pressure Center, the Sail Centers, how to move them and the Rudder Blade. We will understand the functions of the main controls (Sheets) and the secondary controls (Halyards, Outhaul, Sheet Carriages and Backstay Tensioner).

We will also learn how to enter and leave a large commercial port like Castellón at night; we will learn its lights and how to recognise ships at night, whether they are approaching or moving away.

And don't worry about the cold, we have heating in all cabins.

We are waiting for you!

  • Plan
    Friday:
At 7.30pm, check-in at the Club Náutico de Castellón. Instructions on the crossing, life on board and safety, Navigation Theory and, later, dinner organized by the Captain. We sleep in our cabins with heating.

    Saturday:
30 mn - We set sail at 7:00 a.m. heading for the Columbretes Islands. As it will be nighttime, we will see the port in its nocturnal appearance, we will recognize the lights and we will leave through the Port Traffic Depot. We will have breakfast on board. Here we will put into practice the Navigation Theory learned the day before and we will learn to govern the main controls of the sails (the Sheets). We arrive at about 1:00 p.m. We will eat on board and, in the afternoon, we will lower the Dingui and go on an excursion to inspect the neighboring islands, where we will see remains of war artifacts during the tests carried out by the American and Spanish Navies. We will return to prepare dinner and, later, we will turn off the lights to adjust the vision to the night sky and we will chat with the Captain about Astronomy.

    Sunday:
42 mn - We set sail at 7.00 am, have breakfast on board and head towards the Ebro Delta. Today we will practice the secondary sail controls (Sheet Carriages, Halyards and Backstay Tensioners). We will eat while sailing and, in the afternoon, we will anchor in the South Bay of the Ebro Delta and learn how to choose an anchorage and how to manoeuvre to lower and raise anchor. We will learn how to use the AIS and Radar.

    Monday:
48 mn - We set sail at 7.00 am heading for Castellón. Today we will give a course on "Person Overboard": how to stop the boat both under sail (putting the boat to the Dock) and under motor. We will do a rescue simulation. Lunch on board and learning how to enter a Commercial Port through the Entry Device. Recognition of lights and beacons.
Arrival time approximately 6:30 p.m. End of the crossing.

I am a Yacht Captain, PPER, General Radio Operator of the GMDSS, Cook, Musician, PPL Aircraft Pilot and Specialist Engineer in Thermodynamics. I have been sailing for as long as I can remember. My best experience was sailing the entire Mediterranean from Castellón to Morocco, crossing the Strait of Gibraltar by sail.

Excellent falls short. An impressive weekend, Jaime is a captain of 10 and an honored host. Their explanations, disposition and attention are unbeatable. As a cook I'm going to say, we waited anxiously for mealtime to see what dish he would surprise us with. To repeat.

    Great experience and great captain.
Incredible weekend, with a wonderful sailing trip and with the best possible captain.
Jaime is a charming, very friendly person and as a captain he transmits a lot of security. Always very didactic, Jaime makes learning and/or raising your level easy and fun

The boat had everything and was very well prepared. But the best part is the experience lived, Jaime as captain, with all kinds of explanations and resolving doubts.
Only a few refreshments were missing.

Jaime is an excellent skipper. In this navigation I have learned a lot of things from many different subjects, I have eaten very well (he is an excellent cook) and I have had a total sense of security at all times. I would sail with him again. I highly recommend it.
