For five days you will have the opportunity to embark on a unique experience aboard a 50-foot sailboat (14.90 m long and 4.5 m wide) that will be your floating classroom to learn how to be a skipper. This training is specially designed for sailors with previous experience who want to gain security and confidence in decision-making, crew management and maneuvers on board.
Course Objective:
The main purpose is to provide you with the necessary tools to lead a crew and be able to captain a sailboat independently. Throughout the five days of sailing, you will practice specific maneuvers and learn to manage tasks on board. It is not only about improving your technical skills, but also about facing real situations that will test your abilities as a skipper.
Navigation practices:
During the course, we will focus on sailing as much as possible, taking advantage of the winds to plan our route. We will work on advanced techniques such as the use of sails according to the weather conditions, we will learn to weather or ride a storm, and to face a sailing crossing. Although the sailboat does not have a spinnaker or gennaker, we will work with the available means to maximize the efficiency of navigation.
Essential maneuvers:
Basic and advanced maneuvers will be practiced, starting with anchoring and docking in port, essential for safety in ports and anchorages. In addition, we will carry out maneuvers such as tacking, which consists of changing course quickly and in a controlled manner, and exercises on moving the sailboat in small spaces, perfecting the ability to maneuver in areas with little space.
Basic sail trimming will be another key area, so that you learn to adjust the sails according to the intensity and direction of the wind, optimizing the performance of the sailboat at all times.
Night navigation and watch planning:
A crucial part of the training will be night navigation, which includes planning and managing crew watches. Participants will have to take on roles and responsibilities during the night, learning to manage the crew’s rest and safety at all times. In addition, sharing out daily tasks such as cooking and cleaning will be part of the experience, simulating the conditions of a real voyage and the teamwork required on board.
Complementary activities:
Throughout the trip, you will not only learn about sailing, but you will also have the opportunity to enjoy complementary activities such as a workshop on the Dana that hit Ibiza and Formentera in 2024. This workshop will allow to analyze and share lessons on how to deal with extreme weather events. In addition, participants will be able to share personal experiences, which will enrich learning and generate a sense of community among the crew.
The dinghy will be our means of exploring the coasts and disembarking on dry land. During the stops, you will be able to get off the boat, discover places of interest and enjoy the tranquility of the natural environment.
Material and technical support:
Although no physical material will be provided, participants will have access to the ship's nautical charts and the Navionics platform, which will allow them to plan and follow routes during the course. In addition, meteorological platforms such as Aemet and Windy will be reviewed to learn how to interpret weather forecasts and improve decision-making on board.
Amenities and logistics:
The sailboat is equipped to accommodate 12 people, both during the day and for overnight stays, and has everything necessary to ensure comfortable and safe navigation. Food will be purchased by all crew members before setting sail, encouraging teamwork and coexistence on board. The price of the course includes all expenses of the sailboat, such as fuel and moorings.
