Sailing course with sextant on a sailboat from Cádiz

Weekend course in Cádiz where we will learn to locate ourselves following a navigation method devoid of technological means: without a calculator, without a Tablet or Mobile and without GPS. We are going to work the Artificial Horizon as a Fortune Method.

We will sail in a BENETEAU OCEANIS 47.3.

During the crossing we will follow this method and we will see the following topics: establishment of the HRB; terrestrial, hourly, horizontal and uranographic coordinate systems; identification of stars "with the naked eye"; adjustment of the sextant by the Sun.

We will also take heights of the Polar at night and the Sun Meridian at noon. We will make calculations to obtain the position of the ship from the heights obtained. You will work in pairs, so that while one takes the height, the other times the time, and vice versa.

Plan

Base port: Real Club Náutico de Cádiz.

We set sail on Friday at 09:00.
We will deliver Diplomas and arrive at the base port on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

Other information

All crew members are welcome, even if they do not know the language spoken on board (spanish)

Students must come provided with the following material (we do not provide anything, except the sextant):
- Spanish Nautical Almanac (1 per couple)
- DIN A4 squared notebook
- Pencil, pen, sharpener and eraser
- Square or bevel
- Drawing compass
- Wrist watch with second hand
- Front with red light.
