Course on prevention and fight against pollution

In-person course in Malaga to obtain the qualification in Pollution Prevention and Control, basic level approved by the DGMM.

Aim:
The Basic Level Maritime Port Pollution Prevention and Control course provides students with knowledge of oil spill prevention, containment and collection systems, the necessary equipment, its maintenance and repair, in order to achieve an effective response to marine pollution events, in accordance with the basic structure established in the internal contingency plans, in compliance with RD 253/2004 of 13 February and ORDER FOM/555/2005 of 2 March.

Addressed to:
Professionally trained operators and technicians assigned to loading, unloading and handling operations of hydrocarbons in the maritime and port environment: seaports, marinas, shipbuilding and repair yards, oil platforms, ship scrapping yards, hydrocarbon waste reception facilities and any other maritime facility located where Spain exercises sovereignty, sovereign rights or jurisdiction, whether the operations are carried out using fixed, mobile or floating means.

Plan

Course duration (20 hours):
- Theory: 16 hours.
- Practice: 4 hours.

COMMON MODULE:
- Maritime accidents in the transportation of oil.
- Hydrocarbon pollution.
- Pollution by chemical substances.
- Assessment of pollution in ports and coasts.
- Techniques for combating hydrocarbon pollution.
- Techniques for combating chemical pollution.
- Cleaning techniques.
- Protection of sensitive areas.

SYSTEMS AND RESPONSE TECHNIQUES MODULE:
- Equipment for combating oil pollution: fences, barriers, skimmers, products to combat oil spills, advantages and disadvantages. Criteria for the use of different means and products.
- Procedures for use - Operating limits.
- Effects of tides and currents.
- Cleaning and maintenance of equipment - Basic precautions.
- Barrier connections and use with different types of skimmers, mooring systems.
- Equipment interconnection systems. Basics of hazardous waste management.
- Taking hydrocarbon samples.

PRACTICAL MODULE
- Basic – Deployment, collection and towing of barriers and fences.
- Installation of deflector barriers.
- Barrier anchoring systems, depending on weather conditions, both wind and currents.
- Systems for fixing moorings using tidal compensators or other alternative systems.
- Deployment of barriers on pontoons and monobuoys.
- Systems for deploying barriers in open docks, on the coast and in current zones.
- Use of different types of skimmers.
- Assembly and disassembly of portable tanks, "phase tank" type.
- Handling of different types of portable pumps.
- Application of surfactant products and absorbent material.
- Waste collection, classification and storage.
- Construction of temporary waste storage facilities.
- Equipment cleaning and maintenance techniques.

This course is taught in spanish. You must have a sufficient level of this language to be able to follow the course.

The completion of the course is subject to reaching a minimum group of students.
