GMDSS General Operator Update Course in Barcelona

The General Operator course of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) accredits the student to be qualified personnel for emergency, urgency, security and routine communications. Provides extensive knowledge of all GMDSS equipment and procedures used on ships navigating any maritime zone (A1, A2, A3 and A4).

With this training you will be able to renew the Maritime Specialty certificate approved by the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy (DGMM) and endorsed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

This course is aimed at Captains and Officers in charge of the navigation watch of civil ships covered by the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System in any maritime zone (A1, A2, A3 and A4), in accordance with the definitions contemplated by the Royal Decree 1185/2006 as of October 16.

The program complies with the official regulations of Order FOM/2296/2002 and the Resolution of June 18, 2013, complying with the Training Code of the STCW-78 Convention. Its contents are contained in Rule IV/2 of the amended STCW-78 Convention, Section A-IV/2, Table A-IV/2 and Section B-IV/2 of the STCW Code and ERC/DEC/(99)01 .

Plan

The course lasts two days. Classes are taught on Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

THE COURSE INCLUDES:
- Teaching materials.
- Simulators.

SYLLABUS:
- General principles and basic characteristics of the GMDSS.
- Practical knowledge and qualification of the basic equipment of a ship station.
- Operational procedures and detailed operation of the GMDSS systems and subsystems practice.
- Capabilities and operational procedures for general communications.

Other information

This course is taught in spanish. You must have a sufficient level of this language to be able to follow the course.

Completion of the course is subject to a minimum group of students being formed.

The teachers are good, especially the nurse. The practices were good, although the material was destroyed and many things were too broken to use.
In the classroom, we only received the manual in PDF, we asked for paper but they were not given. In the middle of summer the air conditioning did not work well, and there was a lack of air in the classroom.
