El curso de Operador de Radio Restringido del Sistema Mundial de Socorro esta dirigído a toda persona que desempeñe o tenga a su cargo cometidos relacionados con el servicio radioeléctrico a bordo de un buque que deba participar en el SMSSM poseerá́ el título correspondiente del SMSSM, expedido o reconocido por la Administración según lo dispuesto en el Reglamento de Radiocomunicaciones.
Este curso se realiza de manera presencial en Barcelona.
Está basado en el convenio internacional sobre normas de formación, titulación y guardia para la gente de mar (convenio STCW) el convenio de formación y código de formación en su parte A y B.

• Transmitir y recibir información utilizando los subsistemas y el equipo del SMSSM y cumpliendo las prescripciones funcionales del SMSSM.
• Radiocomunicaciones de búsqueda y salvamento, incluido IAMSAR.
• Medios para impedir la transmisión de falsos alertas de socorro.
• Sistemas de notificación para buques.
• Servicios radiométricos.
• Utilización del Código internacional de señales y de las frases normalizadas.
• Inglés hablado y escrito.
• Garantizar servicios radioeléctricos en situaciones de emergencia.
• Medidas para garantizar la seguridad del buque y del personal en relación con los riesgos inherentes al equipo radioeléctrico, incluidos los de tipo eléctrico y de radiación no ionizante.
