Following the enthusiastic response to previous voyages, we’re setting course once again for the Azores—this time with itineraries that capture the charm of island-hopping through this remote volcanic archipelago in the heart of the Atlantic. With relatively short distances between stops, there’s plenty of time to explore ashore and enjoy a full day under sail.
Our journey begins and ends on Terceira. Weather permitting, we’ll navigate through peaceful anchorages around the central islands and sail the São Jorge Channel, an area renowned for marine life. This stretch of ocean is prime territory for spotting sperm whales, along with blue, fin, and sei whales. Playful pods of bottlenose, spotted, and common dolphins are also frequent companions at this time of year.
On Graciosa—often called the “White Island”—we’re welcomed by rolling hills and whitewashed villages. Take a swim in its pristine waters or hike to the Caldeira da Graciosa for sweeping views of the volcanic crater and a visit to the Furna do Enxofre, a remarkable underground lake hidden within a lava cave.
In Faial, we call at Horta, home to the iconic Peter Café Sport—a storied meeting place for sailors since 1918. Wander the waterfront and admire the painted tributes and emblems left by past crews from around the globe.
The voyage concludes anchored off Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira’s capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its Renaissance-era center and 16th-century fortress offer a fitting finale. After disembarkation, consider a visit to the volcanic chimney of Algar do Carvão or unwind in the natural lava pools of Biscoitos.
