Day 1 · Boarding in Cádiz and preparation.
We will meet at 18:00 in Puerto Sherry, El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), where our sailboat will be waiting for us.
After getting to know each other and distributing the cabins, we will review the security equipment, study the weather and plan our defeat to the Canary Islands. We will organize the guards, make the purchase and stock the necessary supplies for approximately one week of sailing.
With everything ready and whenever conditions permit, we will release moorings heading to the Atlantic!
First stage · We left Cádiz headlong.
We will leave the Bay of Cádiz heading in a general south-southwest direction towards the Canary Islands.
During the first few hours we will begin to familiarize ourselves with continuous navigation, the operation of the ship and the organization of day and night guards.
We will actively participate in the governance of the sailboat, the trimming of the sails, the maneuvers and the planning of navigation.
Little by little, the peninsular coast will be left behind and we will begin to experience what it means to sail out to sea for several days.
Second stage · Heading south across the Atlantic.
As we gain southern latitude, we will study the evolution of Atlantic meteorology to find the best sailing conditions.
We will analyze the position of the Azores anticyclone, the wind systems, the waves and the currents to decide our defeat.
We will have to assess how much west or south we are interested in winning and which candle configuration is most appropriate at any given time.
An opportunity to learn to interpret meteorology and understand how decisions are made during a real ocean voyage.
Third stage · The pace of life in the ocean.
After the first few days we will begin to find our own sailing rhythm.
The guards will mark our days. We will learn to rest while the ship continues to sail, to anticipate wind changes, to observe the sky and to enjoy the small routines of life on board.
We will share daily tasks, cook, participate in maneuvers and enjoy conversations, sunrises and starry nights in the middle of the Atlantic.
For several days we will sail without seeing land, living a very different experience than coastal navigation.
Fourth stage · Approach to the Canary Islands.
As we descend toward more southern latitudes, we will begin to notice changes in temperature, wind, and sea conditions.
We will study the approach to the Canary Islands, paying special attention to the prevailing winds from the northeast and to the meteorological peculiarities generated by the islands.
After several days in the ocean, one of the most awaited moments will come: seeing land on the horizon again!
Last stage · Arrival to Gran Canaria.
We will make the final approach to Gran Canaria and enter the port to complete our approximately 700 nautical miles of Atlantic navigation.
After a week of sharing guards, maneuvers, meals and experiences, we will arrive at our destination with many more miles and lessons learned in the blog.
Expected disembarkation: 12:00 p.m.
Important about the program:
- This is a deep-sea sailing trip, not a tourist itinerary with scheduled stops. Our goal is to sail continuously from Cádiz to Gran Canaria, although weather and safety will determine our route and schedules.
- Throughout the voyage, we will participate in life on board, sharing guards, maneuvers, cooking and daily tasks, always under the supervision of Víctor, our professional skipper.
- You do not need a qualification or previous experience in ocean navigation, although we recommend having previously sailed.
A week to discover the Atlantic, learn to sail out to sea and enjoy an authentic ocean adventure in good company!
