Atlantic crossing - 2024: From Cape Verde to the Caribbean

This year we are continuing our sailing trip to the Caribbean.
We take the time to explore the fascinating islands of Cape Verde
explore the beautiful Caribbean island of Barbados as the first stop after the
Atlantic crossing. Weather permitting, we also plan to
a detour to St. Lucia or St. Vincent.
With the well-equipped Rocinante, a proven blue water vessel, and
our experienced skipper Jan, we are well prepared for this adventure.
Jan and the Jenneau have already completed four successful Atlantic crossings,
two of them together.

Plan

Our adventure begins on the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde, in the marina of
Mindelo.
After stocking up on provisions and getting to know our ship
we start with short crossings to one or two of the other islands of the
Archipelago to prepare for the big crossing. These shake-down trips
help us to prepare the ship and crew optimally for the upcoming
Atlantic crossing.
As soon as the weather is favorable, we take the plunge and set off on the approximately 2,000 nautical mile journey across the Atlantic.
From this moment on we live in the rhythm of the ocean: the guards change
and time becomes relative.

Boat details

We love our Janneau and as an owner's ship there is no backlog of maintenance. Our skipper Jan lives on the ship almost all year round and takes care of it. After the purchase, equipped with AIS, spinnaker, solar panels, wind generator, large dinghy, two SUPs and snorkeling equipment, it is a comfortable and safe blue water ship. In 2023, a new certification was carried out by the Berufsgenossenschaft Verkehr, which is a prerequisite for commercial sailing for every German charter company.
We do not charter, but we know our ship.
