THE TRIP
Experience the magic of the Saronic and Argolic Gulfs on our relaxed sailing trip departing from Poros in August. From our home port, we head south to some of Greece's most beautiful islands: Hydra, the car-free artists' island; Spetses with its idyllic anchorages; and the rugged coastline of the eastern Peloponnese. Short daily sailing distances, countless sheltered bays, and picturesque harbor towns with traditional tavernas right on the water – this trip offers relaxed island sailing at its finest.
Jump into the crystal-clear water from the swimming platform in the morning, sail with the thermal winds to the next bay in the afternoon, stroll through the car-free streets of Hydra in the evening, and enjoy fresh fish in a taverna overlooking the sea. We sail together, learn from each other, and enjoy the freedom of the water.
Galini, our Hanse 575, is a true bluewater yacht – built for life and travel on the sea. We sail with warm and welcoming people, discovering the world together and experiencing real boat life: sun, wind, saltwater, little adventures, and the feeling of truly discovering something together as a crew. Galini is at home on the sea and usually far from her home port on Poros. You'll become part of life on board. Things won't always go according to plan – sometimes something breaks down or the weather changes our course – but that's precisely what makes it authentic. We're also happy to show you the onboard technology, and you can participate in all activities – navigating, steering, cooking, and even the technical aspects. Not a cruise, but a true community, genuine experiences, and the magic of the sea.
THE RULE
The Saronic and Argolic Gulfs are among the most relaxed and diverse sailing areas in the entire Mediterranean. Sheltered by the Peloponnese, the Meltemi wind blows here much more gently than in the open Aegean – typically 3-4 Beaufort, rarely more. The islands and coastal towns are close together, and typical daily legs are only 5 to 20 nautical miles – leaving plenty of time for swimming, anchoring, and simply enjoying the scenery. The area offers a fascinating mix of cosmopolitan ports like Hydra and Spetses, secluded anchorages, ancient sites, and the rugged coastline of the eastern Peloponnese. Since we start and finish from our home port of Poros, we know this area particularly well. From Poros, you can quickly reach Piraeus by ferry and from there Athens International Airport in about an hour – travel is straightforward and easy to plan.
WIND & CLIMATE
August brings high summer temperatures (air: 30–36°C, water: 26–27°C). The Meltemi wind blows considerably milder in the Saronic Gulf than in the open Aegean – typically 3–4 Beaufort from the north to northeast. Between Hydra, Spetses, and the Argolic Gulf, a pleasant thermal wind from the southeast prevails, picking up around midday and dying down again in the evening – ideal for relaxed sailing. Mornings are often calm, perfect for swimming stops and a leisurely start to the day. Rain is practically nonexistent in August – brilliant sunshine and the special light of the Aegean are guaranteed.
