Experience a true Atlantic crossing from Gran Canaria to Martinique (Le Marin) – the ultimate bluewater sailing adventure! We'll sail across the Atlantic on our large and fast Hanse 575 GALINI. Taking advantage of the trade winds, we'll plan our route according to the weather and initially sail south to Cape Verde, where a stopover is possible. From there, we'll set course for the Caribbean and experience the fascination of the ocean: navigation, night sailing, teamwork, and the vibrant life on board an Atlantic crew. If we make good progress and the conditions are right, we'll stop in Barbados – the easternmost Caribbean island and the first land on the horizon after the long crossing. Enjoy a few days in the Caribbean before continuing the short distance to Martinique.
We are currently in the planning phase and are assembling a crew that not only sails well but also gets along well personally. It is important to us that the group on board really fits together – therefore, we conduct a personal interview with all interested parties.
Our GALINI has already successfully participated in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) and meets all the safety requirements of this prestigious rally. She is therefore equipped and tested for transatlantic crossings according to the highest international standards.
She's a true bluewater vessel – built for life and travel on the sea. We're out on the water with warm-hearted people, discovering the world together and experiencing real boat life: sun, wind, saltwater, little adventures, and the feeling of truly discovering something together as a crew. Galini is at home on the sea and usually far from her home port on Poros. You'll become part of life on board. Things won't always go according to plan – sometimes something breaks down or the weather changes our course – but that's precisely what makes it authentic. We're also happy to show you the onboard technology, and you can participate in all activities – navigating, steering, cooking, and even the technical aspects. Not a cruise, but a true community, genuine experiences, and the magic of the sea.
Our adventure begins in Gran Canaria. After boarding, the safety briefing, and provisioning, we'll use the time for preparations and getting to know the crew. Once everything is ready, we'll set sail and head south towards Cape Verde. Depending on the weather and crew, we'll make a stop in Mindelo on São Vicente – a perfect opportunity for a shore excursion, restocking supplies, and a technical check. Then we'll set course for the Caribbean. We'll spend the next two to three weeks at sea: taking watches, trimming sails, navigating, monitoring the weather, cooking together, and engaging in lively conversations in the cockpit. At night, the stars shine like nowhere else, and during the day, we're often accompanied by dolphins or flying fish. Life on board is characterized by team spirit, mutual support, and the shared goal of arriving safely and happily in the Caribbean. If we make good progress and the weather cooperates, we'll head for Barbados – the easternmost island of the Caribbean and, for many Atlantic sailors, the magical moment when land reappears on the horizon for the first time after weeks at sea. In Bridgetown, we bring the crossing to a close, enjoy our first few days in the Caribbean, and treat ourselves to a few rum punches in Carlisle Bay before continuing the short distance (~115 nautical miles) to Martinique. Arriving in Le Marin, we are greeted by Caribbean joie de vivre, French culture, and the perfect infrastructure for sailors – an unforgettable moment after some 2,800 nautical miles.
For those collecting miles for their next sailing license: Since we'll be crossing the open sea on this trip, you'll log plenty of nautical miles. Of course, we'll issue you an official mileage certificate at the end of the trip.
