Two very special sailing trips are planned in Madeira when the annual state of emergency prevails here.

Every year on December 23rd, Funchal, the capital of Madeira, hosts a truly extraordinary folk festival, and we'll take you along, combined with some beautiful sailing trips on the Atlantic and a truly different Christmas celebration.

Then comes New Year's week, and the atmosphere on the island on December 31st is absolutely fantastic. Add to that some bluewater sailing and enjoying life.

Madeira enjoys mild temperatures in December. The northeast trade winds provide reliable conditions, while Atlantic swells and currents make sailing varied and interesting. A tranquil atmosphere and the famous festively decorated promenades await us in the harbors.

An absolute highlight is the "Noite do Mercado" on December 23rd in Funchal, where the entire capital city gathers for Christmas celebrations.

Our yacht, the Sun Odyssey 389, is a modern cruising yacht with 3 cabins plus a saloon and a bathroom. The saloon is not used for other purposes. Equipped with autopilot, solar panels, heating, bow thruster, and new sails (2024), she offers a successful blend of safety, sailing performance, and comfort.

The skipper for this activity speaks english and german. To participate you must speak one of the languages spoken on board.

Prices exclude arrival and departure and onboard expenses; final cleaning and washing of bed linen are done by the crew.

The Sun Odyssey 389 is a modern sailing yacht from Jeanneau with a length of 11.75 m and a beam of 3.76 m. It combines good sailing characteristics with sophisticated comfort below deck and is suitable for both sporty cruising and holiday trips.

The layout includes three double cabins and a bathroom with shower and toilet. The saloon is bright and open, with a U-shaped seating area, navigation table, and a functional galley with a cooler, gas stove, and sink.

A great sailing and water sports school. I obtained my SBF-See, SBF-Binnen/Segel and UBI/SRC here. Friendly, patient trainers who use their experience and skills to get you to the required exam level. Despite the training, there is still plenty of fun and they take the time to respond to special requests/concerns. I would love to come back here to broaden my maritime horizons.

The theory compact course (in my case SBF Inland) is really very good and prepares you ideally for the exam and beyond.
I also really liked the friendly trainers during the practical training sessions. This meant I was able to pass both exams straight away.

Very good preparation for the exam and future sailing experiences. You can see that all the trainers are very passionate about what they do.
There are always reports of experiences and additional theoretical background on all exam-relevant topics, so that you feel very well prepared the first time you are alone on the boat.

I just did my SBF inland sailing/motor here.
Great people, pleasant atmosphere. The teachers are easy-going, but still competent and can show you what is important when sailing.
If you don't feel completely confident with certain maneuvers, just ask. There is no rigid curriculum that has to be followed. You can decide for yourself where you need more practice.
As you gain experience, you will spend some time on board with just other students. This helps you to feel responsible for the boat and the maneuvers and to coordinate with the other students. But don't worry, a boat with a teacher is always nearby if something goes wrong or you have any questions.
