Schedule
Day 1. It's not without reason that Tromso is called the Gateway to the Arctic. For us, it's shopping and embarkation time!
Day 2 and 3.300Nm.
Sailing to Bear Island, 2 days of non-stop sailing!
Day4.
Bear Island
With the proper wind & ice conditions we will stop in the southern bay or in the north at the research station.
Not everyone knows - what are scientists doing here? The primary task is to observe the clouds - an additional one is to study the arriving birds ;-)
Day 5 and 6, 200Nm
At this stage, we have to be very careful with the ice fields - last year one practically reached Bear Island
Day 7 Hornsund
The legendary polar station of the Polish Academy of Sciences, located at the gates of a beautiful fjord. If the ice lets us into it, maybe we will be able to spend at least a moment in its hospitable premises.
Day 8, 65Nm
Sailing to Belsund In the last few years a new colony of walruses has appeared in the vicinity of Belsund, there are over 40 of them;-)
Day 9 and 10 50Nm, 10h
Shipping to Barentsburg
Russian mining town on Spitsbergen. In the Red Bear restaurant, it is worth tasting real Ukrainian borscht and local beer. Local strong alcohol 78N can stop many sailors. If you would like to see Piramiden - it's not the best time of year - the ice cover can spread over a mile from the shores of the bay - we invite you to Piramiden in June and July ;-)
Day 11 and 12 25Nm, 5h Longyearbyen
This former mining settlement is the capital of Svalbard. Although it has only 1,800 inhabitants, it seems to be a metropolis in the middle of nowhere. In addition to reindeer roaming the streets and hundreds of snowmobiles, there is everything that befits a capital: airport, port, shops, restaurants, and a real brewery. This is the only place in Svalbard where you can shop, replenish your equipment or buy souvenirs...
