Arrival/Departure:
Departure: Marina di Stabia (Naples), Italy
Arrival: Syracuse (Catania), Sicily
Discover the allure of Southern Italy on our special sailing trip from the Amalfi Coast, through the Aeolian Islands, to Syracuse in Sicily at the end of June/beginning of July. From the legendary island of Capri, across the dramatic Amalfi Coast, past the spectacular nighttime fireworks of Stromboli, and through the volcanic Aeolian Islands to the ancient splendor of Syracuse, you can expect diverse sailing stages, authentic life on board, and Mediterranean adventures. The trip is a captivating blend of coastal sailing, a long overnight crossing, and relaxed island hopping among volcanoes.
Dive into the deep blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, experience the grand night voyage to Stromboli, discover the wild beauty of the Aeolian Islands, and let yourself be embraced by the ancient charm of Sicily. We sail together, learn from each other, and enjoy the freedom of the open water.
Galini, our Hanse 575, is a true bluewater yacht – built for life and travel on the sea. We sail with warm and welcoming people, discovering the world together and experiencing real boat life: sun, wind, saltwater, little adventures, and the feeling of truly discovering something together as a crew. Galini is at home on the sea and usually far from her home port on Poros. You'll become part of life on board. Things won't always go according to plan – sometimes something breaks down or the weather changes our course – but that's precisely what makes it authentic. We're also happy to show you the onboard technology, and you can participate in all activities – navigating, steering, cooking, and even the technical aspects. Not a cruise, but a true community, genuine experiences, and the magic of the sea.
Our adventure begins with a crew change in the afternoon in Marina di Stabia at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. After boarding, introductions, and a safety briefing, we'll sail first to Capri – the legendary island is practically on our doorstep. From there, we'll cruise along the breathtaking Amalfi Coast with its pastel-colored villages perched on dramatic cliffs. Weather and wind conditions permitting, we'll depart from the Amalfi Coast for the long night passage: approximately 120 nautical miles across the open Tyrrhenian Sea, heading for Stromboli. Night watches, starry skies, and the unique feeling of vastness and freedom make this passage a highlight of the trip – and with a bit of luck, we'll reach Stromboli in the dark, when the lava illuminates the night sky. From there, we continue through the Aeolian Islands – Panarea, Salina, Lipari, Vulcano – each island with its own distinct character, from the exclusive elegance of Panarea to the steaming fumaroles of Vulcano. The distances between the islands are short, leaving plenty of time for swimming, exploring, and simply enjoying the scenery. Sailing through the legendary Strait of Messina with its strong currents, we continue along the Sicilian east coast to Syracuse – the ancient metropolis with its baroque old town island of Ortigia, a fitting finale to this special voyage. Just like in real sailing, the wind, the weather, and the crew together decide exactly which harbors and bays we visit and how long we stay in each.
For those collecting miles for their next sailing license: Since we'll be crossing the open sea on this trip, you'll log plenty of nautical miles. Of course, we'll issue you an official mileage certificate at the end of the trip.
WIND & CLIMATE
At the end of June/beginning of July, we can expect summery temperatures (air: 27–32°C, water: 23–25°C). The prevailing wind direction around the Aeolian Islands is north to northwest (Tramontana/Maestrale), usually a moderate 2–4 Beaufort. Thermal breezes often develop in the afternoons near the coast and between the islands. Strong currents and funneling effects are to be expected in the Strait of Messina, making sailing particularly exciting. Rain is very rare at the end of June – we can expect mostly bright sunshine and long, warm evenings.
