Se requerirá la posesión del Certificado de Especialidad de Botes de Rescate No Rápidos y Embarcaciones de Supervivencia a los Capitanes y Oficiales de Puente y de Máquinas de buques mercantes, como a los Marinero u otros tripulantes de buques mercantes que tengan asignadas funciones en el manejo de embarcaciones de supervivencia y botes de rescate no rápidos.

Las profesiones destinadas a tener que obtenerlo son: auxiliares de pasaje marítimo, personal de cocina, marinera de cubierta y maquinas, como Capitanes, Jefes de maquinas y oficiales.
