Island hopping and collecting miles from Tenerife to Lanzarote

This mileage cruise takes us from Santa Cruz de Tenerife through the eastern Canary Islands to Lanzarote. Our route includes diverse islands such as Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura before we dock in the port of Playa Blanca. With approximately 200 nautical miles on the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 389, we'll gain valuable experience on open Atlantic routes and between the islands.

The daily sailing routine is active and practical: We sail day and night legs on a watch system, practicing navigation, meteorology, and seamanship. This trip is suitable for both those who want to accumulate miles and those who want to expand their skills on longer voyages. Everyone on board is involved in the sailing, ensuring optimal integration of theory and practice.

In late autumn, conditions in the Canary Islands are still very pleasant: stable northeast trade winds, temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius, and consistent winds make the sailing challenging and varied. Between the islands, jet effects and currents can be challenging – perfect conditions for gaining experience on offshore sailing. Encounters with dolphins are also not uncommon in this area.

Our yacht, the Sun Odyssey 389, offers three cabins with six berths plus a saloon, a bathroom, and comprehensive safety and navigation technology. With an autopilot, bow thruster, chart plotter in the cockpit, and new sails (2024), she is perfectly equipped for our route. The Sun Odyssey 389 is a modern sailing yacht from Jeanneau with a length of 11.75 m and a beam of 3.76 m. It combines good sailing characteristics with sophisticated comfort below deck and is suitable for both sporty cruising and holiday trips.

The layout includes three double cabins and a bathroom with shower and toilet. The saloon is bright and open, with a U-shaped seating area, navigation table, and a functional galley with a cooler, gas stove, and sink.

Friendly, patient trainers who use their experience and skills to get you to the required exam level. Despite the training, there is still plenty of fun and they take the time to respond to special requests/concerns. I would love to come back here to broaden my maritime horizons.

The theory compact course (in my case SBF Inland) is really very good and prepares you ideally for the exam and beyond.

Very good preparation for the exam and future sailing experiences. You can see that all the trainers are very passionate about what they do.
There are always reports of experiences and additional theoretical background on all exam-relevant topics, so that you feel very well prepared the first time you are alone on the boat.

I just did my SBF inland sailing/motor here.
Great people, pleasant atmosphere. The teachers are easy-going, but still competent and can show you what is important when sailing.
If you don't feel completely confident with certain maneuvers, just ask. There is no rigid curriculum that has to be followed. You can decide for yourself where you need more practice.
As you gain experience, you will spend some time on board with just other students. This helps you to feel responsible for the boat and the maneuvers and to coordinate with the other students. But don't worry, a boat with a teacher is always nearby if something goes wrong or you have any questions.
