CROSSING AND OFFSHORE AND COASTAL NAVIGATION PRACTICES ON A LARGE SAILING SHIP: ROSES-MARSEILLE-NICE FROM VALENCIA +500 NM

Would you like to gain experience and improve your sailing technique? Do you want to increase your confidence and skill as a skipper or captain? Are you preparing to become a professional? Do you need to prove days and miles of sailing? Or do you simply fancy living a great adventure?

We offer you a program where you will learn to sail with greater safety and efficiency on a journey of more than 500nm, assuming the role of skipper and crew member in different situations and real wind and sea conditions. Whether you are already a skipper, captain or PPER or would like to become one, or you simply want to enjoy the sea and our coasts, this journey is for you. Come aboard the sailboat! A modern Dufourt 525 Grand Large. A large ocean-going sailboat, ideal for learning and enjoying with great safety and comfort.

We will sail along the Valencian Coast, the Orange Blossom Coast and the Costa Dorada with its spectacular Ebro Delta, then heading towards the Costa Brava, to anchor in the crystal-clear waters of the Medes Islands and finally call at the Bay of Roses, considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Here we will have a day of rest anchored in some of its beautiful coves or perhaps mooring to spend the night in one of its charming ports.

Depending on the weather, we will then enjoy this area or head straight into the legendary Gulf of Lion, sailing towards the port of the ancient and vibrant city of Sète, which we will enjoy for a little over a day. From there we will set sail towards the Camargue, one of the most beautiful areas of Provence, finally landing in the old port of Marseille, guarded by the ancient fort of Saint-Jean, where we will enjoy this impressive city for a day and a half.

Finally, we will sail through the surroundings of Les Calanques, narrow wild coves between impressive cliffs and along the wooded coasts of Provence to the Hyères Islands National Park, where we will spend the night under the stars before reaching our destination, Nice. Perhaps on your own you can stay a few more days to enjoy this beautiful city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

WORKSHOPS AND PRACTICES

It includes different workshops and practices for those who set learning objectives:

• Sailing (sails, controls, manoeuvres, headings, trimming with crew and solo…)
• Offshore navigation (planning, meteorology, route, management…)

    1st SAILING: VALENCIA-VALENCIA COAST (20 MN)

Welcome and boarding. The boat is already stowed and ready to sail, so after settling in, we will get to know the sailboat and have a first WORKSHOP ON GOVERNMENT, SAFETY AND NAVIGATION, going into depth on aspects related to government and safety, both during daytime and nighttime navigation.

Once these objectives have been met, we will have a second WORKSHOP ON HIGH-SEA NAVIGATION, where we will analyse the weather, plan the route and organise the watches and tasks on board. And finally, we will familiarise ourselves in a practical way with the manoeuvring of the boat, under sail and motor. And now well prepared, at around 8:00 p.m. we will begin our night journey.

    2ND SAILING: VALENCIA COAST-AZAHAR COAST-EBRO DELTA-GOLDEN COAST (85 NM)

During this voyage we will have a SAILING WORKSHOP to get the most out of the sailboat. Our course will be towards the Ebro Delta (35º) along the Valencia Coast, dawning on the Costa del Azahar. Depending on the weather, we will enter the Alfaques Bay, a natural area of great beauty on the Costa Dorada, where we can cool off and observe aquatic birds such as flamingos. In the mid-afternoon we will head towards the Costa Brava (56º).

    3rd SAILING: COSTA DORADA-COSTA BRAVA (100 MN)

We will sail along the coast during the night, and early in the morning we will have a new COASTAL NAVIGATION WORKSHOP, where we will be able to position ourselves in a practical way on the chart using the bearing compass, which we will apply systematically until our final port of arrival. In the mid-afternoon we will leave Barcelona on the port side and continue our course towards the North.

    4TH SOURCE: COSTA BRAVA-MEDAS ISLANDS-ROSAS BAY (50 NM)

New night navigation, this time using the lighthouses, to arrive early at the Medes Islands, one of the most important marine reserves in the Mediterranean. We will not miss the opportunity to cool off in its crystal-clear waters. And from here we will head towards the Bay of Roses, considered one of the most beautiful in the world, where we will stop at midday, to spend the afternoon and spend the night anchored in one of its coves or perhaps moored in one of its ports.

Here we will specify the best strategy to cross the mythical Gulf of Lion (a real experience for sailors). Either advance the jump to Marseille to enjoy an extra day in the Hyères Islands. Or wait, if the weather is not favourable, enjoying the areas of interest and countless coves near this area: Medes Islands, Empuriabrava, Cadaqués, Port Vendrés…, to jump directly to Marseille as soon as possible. Or reach Marseille through the city of Séte, north of the Gulf of Lion, as we indicate below.

5TH SOURCE: BAY OF ROSAS-GULF OF LEÓN-SÈTE-COSTA AZUR (80 NM)

We will enter the Gulf of Lion, pointing our bow towards the beautiful city of Séte (13th), with its blue sea at the foot of French Provence. In the early afternoon we will moor in its beautiful old port. And as the sun sets we will enjoy the good atmosphere of this ancient and vibrant city, and perhaps a good dinner in one of its charming restaurants.

    6th SAILING: SÈTE (FREE DAY)

Today we will have a well-deserved day of rest to get to know the beautiful city of Séte. We will be able to walk along its canals and bridges, and admire its typical colorful buildings. A free day for everyone to enjoy as they wish. Rest, walk, taste its delicacies straight from the sea... any individual or group plan will be more than successful.

    7TH SPANISH: SÈTE-MARSEILLE (75 NM)

Early in the morning we will set sail for Marseille (95º). We will sail along the Camargue, one of the most beautiful areas of Provence. Leaving Saintes Maries de la Mer to port and entering the Bouches-du-Rhône, we will arrive at dusk at the Vieux Port, the beautiful fortified port of Marseille, in the very centre of the city, where we will be able to experience its lively nightlife.

    8th SAILING: MARSEILLE (FREE DAY)

Today we will get to know this cosmopolitan and vibrant city from its nerve centre where our sailboat will be moored. From here we have many places of interest nearby. We will be able to wander around the streets, visit the fish market and, why not, taste an authentic and delicious bouillabaisse.

    9th VOYAGE: MARSEILLE-Côte d'Azur-HYÈRES ISLANDS (55 NM)

We will have an early breakfast to enjoy the morning atmosphere of the old port. We will continue our route, already in the heart of the Côte d'Azur (112º), looking for the Les Calanques national park, to arrive at the Hyères Islands, a paradise where we will anchor to enjoy its impressive turquoise waters and a beautiful night under the stars. We will take advantage of the navigation to learn at least 5 basic knots in a new “ROPE WORKSHOP”.

10th SAILING: HYÈRES ISLANDS- Côte d'Azur-NICE (55 NM)

We will weigh anchor at dawn to begin our last voyage to the Northeast (45º). Leaving the Gulfs of Saint-Tropez and Cannes to port, we will sail along the most famous French Riviera on the Côte d'Azur to our port of call, in the heart of the city of Nice. Towards mid-afternoon we will moor, ending the program after more than 500 nm of navigation and saying goodbye to what will surely have been a great shared experience.
