RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster offshore online theory course

Designed for active boaters who have current knowledge of coastal sailing, this advanced course omits basic concepts to build directly on your practical Day Skipper knowledge.

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is recognized worldwide as the gold standard in maritime training, respected around the world by maritime authorities and boat rental companies for their exceptional training standards.

The Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore theory course builds on your existing Day Skipper knowledge to take you to the highest level of theoretical qualification in deep-sea sailing.

• Prerequisites: Theoretical knowledge equivalent to the RYA Day Skipper level.

• Experience: At least 15 days at sea, 300 miles sailed, 8 hours of night sailing and 2 days as skipper.

• Duration: 50 hours.

• Access: Initial 12 months.

• Materials: All materials are included.

• Next steps: Get the official theoretical certificate required to take your RYA Coastal Skipper practical course or take the Yachtmaster Offshore practical exam.

Advanced card work:

Learn to draw a running score and advance your knowledge by calculating the course to follow and estimating positions that span several hours. To do this, you will use the calculation of current intensities and a more detailed understanding of tidal currents.

Electronic navigation:

Increase your knowledge of the limitations and advantages of the system, including radar, position fixation and the main applications that our instructors use both for planning and at sea.

Restricted visibility:

Precautions, limitations and navigation strategy in low visibility conditions. Understanding the areas of uncertainty and the precision of the different position fixing techniques.

Other information

Important:

The theoretical course is the first step in obtaining the degree. Once the theoretical course is over, it is necessary to take a 5-day practical course and, in the case of RYA Yachtmaster, an additional 2-day practical exam.
