The objective of this course is to teach the skills and techniques necessary to safely captain a cruising yacht in coastal passages by day and night.

You can plan a coastal passage including consideration of yacht capacity, navigation, provisions, weather, ports of refuge, tidal heights and tidal currents, required publications and strategy.

Preparing for the sea
Learn about the safety equipment required for offshore passages.
You can prepare a yacht for sea, including storage, safety briefings, watchkeeping, delegation of responsibilities, and equipment and engine checks.
Pilotage
You can prepare a pilotage plan, taking into account the environment, transits, clearing courses, beacons, port or harbour regulations and tidal considerations.
