Our journey begins in Iceland with a scenic drive through the Westfjords, where we can’t resist stopping by geysers and the glacial lagoon before reaching Bolungarvik, the port of embarkation. After provisioning and a safety briefing, we set sail and head toward the legendary Denmark Strait. At this time of year, conditions are usually mild, but the crossing remains an adventure. On the solar eclipse cruise, we take the shortest route north; on others, we follow the wind and current along unknown shores.
As we reach Greenland, the first glaciers appear near Rømer Fjord and Amdrup’s historic hut—a reminder of Arctic exploration. Further along, we visit Ittoqqortoormiit, the northernmost permanent settlement in the world and the only inhabited place on our route. The next days bring long treks, depth soundings with our Superdinghy, and encounters with massive glaciers like Storbræ near d’Aunay Bugt. Time permitting, we push east before turning back.
The return across Denmark Strait is our final challenge, a fitting end to an unforgettable voyage. Disembarkation takes place in Ísafjörður, the largest town in the region with spectacular views, before we continue to Reykjavik. Stunning landscapes and a few land attractions make us eager to extend the return journey to two days—because in the Arctic, every extra moment is worth it.
