Adventure offered by Carlos

4 weeks
We made the return Atlantic crossing from St. Maarten to Cádiz on our Fountaine Pajot Eleuthera catamaran, which offers all the comforts for a trip of these characteristics.
We will depart from the Caribbean and sail across the Atlantic towards Madeira, a Portuguese island that is a traditional place of passage for ships returning from American lands. From there, and with the permission of the wind, we will head to Cádiz to end our adventure.
This will be my 17th crossing of the Atlantic. Join me on this adventure to enjoy an epic journey.

  • Plan
We will leave St. Maarten at the beginning of April (to be decided according to the weather) and we calculate that in 18 days we will arrive in Madeira.

Once we reach this Portuguese island, we may stop over for a couple of days, depending on the weather (since it may be more convenient to continue our journey as we arrive).

Seven days after leaving Madeira we will arrive in Cádiz, where our adventure will end.

This route through the south is safer than through Bermuda and the Azores, and we will take advantage of the great motor autonomy that the catamaran has to avoid storms to the north.

Important: There is no specific arrival date and we can change the wrinkled port if the weather requires it.

Other information
You can come a week before and enjoy St. Maarten and the whole area while we prepare for the crossing.

The stay is included, while the expenses of moorings, fuel, food, etc., are shared. We calculate €1000 for extras. The Iridium calls bonus is also shared. We will use SMS and we will be able to receive calls.

The Atlantic crossings are less dangerous than a car trip, but they do have their share of adventure. It is necessary to assume that we will be far from external help and will depend on elements that we cannot control, such as headwinds, breakdowns and other conditions that may influence our planned schedule and itinerary.

In other words, this is not a cruise with departure and arrival dates, you have to be willing to take a little longer, land in Tenerife if the weather so requires, or have to wait a week in Madeira... The wind rules and we don't it is as reliable as the one way trades.
