Atlantic Sailing Crossing from Gran Canaria to the Caribbean …

Come and enjoy ocean sailing on a beautiful, strong and robust sailboat fully equipped to take on high seas voyages.

During the trip you will learn the concepts necessary to implement safe and well-planned ocean navigation.

We will depart from the port of Gran Canaria heading south for 7 days towards the Cape Verde archipelago, where we will stay for 5 days to visit the islands.

We will then set sail from Cape Verde heading west across the Atlantic Ocean to reach the island of the Dominican Republic (Samaná) in about 20-25 days of sailing. When we arrive in the Dominican Republic, you can spend a few days on board the sailboat until your return flight leaves (5 additional days from arrival, approximately).

In total, the duration of the activity would be approximately 42 days.

You can also do it in sections, that is, only from Gran Canaria to Cape Verde or only from Cape Verde to the Dominican Republic. Both sections can also be found on Sailwiz:

- From Cape Verde to the Dominican Republic.

Plan

We set sail from the port of Gran Canaria at 10:00 a.m.

We look for the descending current until we hook the northwest winds that help us descend to the latitude of the Cape Verde archipelago, specifically to the Island of Sal. This navigation will last about 7 days and during them you will learn the concepts of ocean navigation.

The ship will stay for 5 days in the Cape Verde archipelago for sightseeing.

After that, we will set sail towards the Dominican Republic (Samaná) for a journey of about 20-25 days across the Atlantic Ocean.

We will arrive in Samaná and have another 5 days to visit the island before taking the return flight approximately a month and a half after leaving the Canary Islands.

Other information

All crew members are welcome, even if they do not know the language spoken on board (english and spanish)

Food and drink will be purchased before departure (day before departure) to organize the boat before departure.

If the crew agrees, offshore internet will be available for satellite communications for WhatsApp and video calls, this is an extra service offered on board and the cost of it is 300€ to be distributed among the crew members, but it is optional. If you don't want to enjoy the internet during the trip, we don't have to sign up for this rate. The ship has satellite communication but would be left only for meteorological reports and emergencies.

Beautiful fast and safe sailboat, perfectly conditioned for ocean crossings, it has 2 complete cabins, 1 independent bathroom with toilet, shower and sink, living room for 10 people, complete kitchen with 2 refrigerators and fully equipped, clear and wide deck to take the sun and enjoy the sea as well as a comfortable and safe bathtub to enjoy sailing or eat with views of a beautiful cove... it also has a bathing platform with access to the sea and a bathing ladder to enjoy a good bath.

The boat includes pneumatic and outboard as well as all the regulatory safety equipment, this being reviewed annually as well as the boat itself, carrying out routine and exhaustive controls of it and its equipment.

The boat is always skippered by the owner and an assistant sailor.
