La Palma is the starting port for our trip to Cape Verde.
The Canary Islands are often called "tropical Spain." In the cold and rainy November weather of Germany, they offer a vision of eternal spring, blue skies, hot yellow sun, endless sandy beaches, palm trees, and pleasant temperatures.
Each of the seven Canary Islands has its own charm; on our trip, we will focus on the island of La Palma.
On a clear day, we can see the summit of Mount Teide on Tenerife from a great distance; at 3,717 meters, it is the highest mountain in Spain. The peak is often covered in snow, even though it is only 300 nautical miles outside the tropics.

We will make optimal use of the wind and nautical conditions and discover and experience the respective sea area with its special features.

The daily goals are discussed with the crew and then achieved together as a team.

A willingness to engage with nature, the sea, and the unique aspects of sailing with respect and enjoyment is essential. Daily goals are discussed and selected with the crew and then achieved together as a team.

Note: The onboard language on this trip is German.

La Palma - Mindelo / Canary Islands - Cape Verde
    November 8, 2026, 5:00 PM - November 21, 2026, 10:00 AM

    Category:
coastal sailing / offshore voyage approx. 1200 nm

The crossing of the North Atlantic Ocean to the Cape Verde archipelago will take us approximately six nights. With good seamanship and the proven watch system, we will enjoy the fascination of offshore sailing before reaching Palmeira on the island of Sal after about 800 nautical miles.

Average daily temperatures of 25 degrees combined with 23-degree warm sea water make us quickly forget the winter in Europe.
The town of Santa Maria attracts visitors with its wide beaches and African ambience.

With a bit of luck, we might be able to observe whales, sea turtles, or the exuberant play of dolphins.

With the northeast trade winds at our sails, São Nicolau is easily accessible, and we thoroughly enjoy the trophy-rich bluewater sailing. São Nicolau is small, yet incredibly diverse. Its coastal formations are considered one of the seven natural wonders of Cape Verde, and in the small villages, time seems to have stood still.

Our final leg takes us across the turquoise Atlantic Ocean, past Santa Lucia, to Mindelo on São Vicente. Mindelo is the Cape Verdean capital of music, culture, and art. The markets are loud and authentic, and the old town is bustling with vibrant activity.
We will experience the blissful feeling of having made it when we bring our eventful 14-day voyage to a close in the port of Mindelo.

In Cape Verde, there is only one marina for pleasure boats, located in Mindelo; on the other islands, we will mainly anchor in sheltered bays or harbor facilities.
The consistently blowing northeast trade winds provide optimal sailing conditions with wind speeds between 15 and 25 knots.
The Cape Verde islands are of volcanic origin, with volcanic peaks reaching up to 2829 meters.
The climate is mild year-round and never gets excessively hot. Rain is rare in Cape Verde, occurring at most as a damp trade wind fog in the mid-elevations of the mountainous islands.
Cape Verde is a safe and democratic travel destination.

We're sailing a new 2017 Bavaria C51. It's a special vessel, designed and certified for offshore sailing. It handles even high waves with ease and boasts excellent seakeeping. Comfort and performance have been seamlessly combined, promising a pleasant time together on board and an exhilarating sailing experience.

Final cleaning:
The final cleaning of the yacht is usually carried out by the crew at the end of the trip. To allow you to pack in peace and leave the boat without the hassle of cleaning, I will take care of the final cleaning for you (not valid for trips in the Azores).
This means a relaxed arrival and a pleasant departure for you.

One yacht, one skipper:
I'm your skipper! You can contact me and get to know me during your trip preparations. If you're unsure about anything or have any questions, please give me a call. I'm happy to assist you and answer any questions you may have. I know the yacht inside and out and offer professional, safe, and personalized skippering tailored to your specific needs.

Shopping lists/recipes:
Upon request, I will compile recipes and a corresponding shopping list tailored to the number of participants and your culinary preferences. A holiday feeling from the very first minute.

Background/Additional Information:
You'd like to take a shore excursion, or perhaps you haven't yet had time to find out what awaits you at our destination port. You'll receive this information on board, and if any questions remain unanswered, I'm happy to assist with your research.

Onboard cash:
At the start of the trip, each participant contributes approximately €100 to the ship's kitty. This covers provisions including drinks, fuel, harbor fees, gas, and diesel fuel consumed. (The skipper is exempt.)

When the initial funds run low, the crew each contribute an equal amount. At the end of the trip, any remaining funds in the ship's kitty are divided among the participants.

The required amount varies depending on the cost of food in the region visited and the desired level of meals. Typically, the cost of the onboard kitty ranges from €80 to €150 per person per week.
