1ST RAIL: CANNES-COSTA AZUR (35 NM)
Welcome and boarding. The boat is already stowed and prepared to sail, so after getting settled, we will get to know the sailboat and we will have a first STEERING, SAFETY AND NAVIGATION WORKSHOP, delving into the aspects related to steering and safety, both in daytime and nighttime navigation.
Once these objectives have been achieved, we will have a second HIGH HIGH NAVIGATION WORKSHOP, where we will analyze the meteorology, plan the route and organize the watches and tasks on board. And finally we will become practically familiar with the maneuver of the boat, under sail and motor.
And now well prepared, around 5:00 p.m. we will begin our journey. Heading towards the Hyéres Islands (214º), defeating Marseille, we will leave the gulfs of Cannes and Saint-Tropez to starboard, sailing along the most famous French Riviera on the Côte d'Azur.
2nd SOURCE: BLUE COAST-HYÈRES ISLANDS-MARSEILLE (50 NM)
We will continue our route under the stars, leaving the national park of the Hyères Islands on the port side and through the great Rada de Toulon, towards Les Calanques, with its deep and steep coves, where we will arrive towards dawn. And from here we will gain North (292º) mooring before noon in the Vieux Port, the beautiful fortified port of Marseille. We will enjoy the day getting to know this cosmopolitan and pulsating city from its nerve center where we will have our sailboat and many places of interest such as Fort Saint Jean, the Cathedral of La Major... We will be able to walk through the streets, visit the fish market and, why not, taste an authentic and delicious bouillabaisse.
During this voyage we will have a SAILING NAVIGATION WORKSHOP to obtain the best performance from the sailboat throughout our journey. And we will also specify the best strategy to cross the mythical Gulf of Lion (a true experience for sailors). It is good to wait, if the weather is not favorable, enjoying the atmosphere of the port and the beautiful city of Marseille, to jump directly into the Bay of Roses. Or, preferably, reach Rosas through the city of Séte, in the North of the Gulf of Lion, as indicated below.
3rd RAIL: MARSEILLE-GULF OF LÉON-SÈTE (75 NM)
We will enter, if possible at dawn, into the Gulf of León, pointing our bow towards the beautiful city of Séte (275º). In the morning we will have a new COASTAL NAVIGATION WORKSHOP, placing ourselves practically on the chart using the bearing compass, which we will systematically apply until our final port of arrival.
We will leave the Bouches-du-Rhône and Saintes Maries de la Mer to starboard, to coast through the Camargue, jewel of French Provence, until we can see the characteristic hill of Séte, Mount Saint-Clair, from a sea completely dyed in indigo. In the afternoon we will moor in its beautiful old port and the first fishing port in the Mediterranean. And at sunset we will enjoy the atmosphere that is breathed in this old and vibrant city, and perhaps a good dinner in any of its charming restaurants.
