Learn to sail aboard a cruise on the Arousa estuary.

Live a unique nautical experience in the Rías Baixas with this 4-hour intensive sailing course on the largest estuary in Galicia. From the port of Cabo de Cruz (Boiro), we will depart aboard a fully equipped 10.6-meter-long cruise ship, so you can learn the essential fundamentals of sailing, guided by professional skippers with extensive experience in training and both coastal and ocean voyages.

An ideal course for all levels, whether this is your first time sailing or if you already have a nautical qualification (PNB, PER...) and you need to gain confidence, practice and safety on board.

Objectives of the course:

Get started in sailing with a 100% practical experience.

Understand the basic elements of governing a sailboat.

Gain trust and security as a crew member or skipper.

Lay the foundations for continuing your training in nautical schools or for more advanced voyages.

Introduce fundamental concepts of planning and safety at sea.

Full course syllabus (4 hours):

1) Introduction to the Vessel.

- Parts of the sailboat: rig, sails, winches, rudder, etc.

- Basic safety on board: use of harnesses, life lines, vests.

- Distribution of functions and crew organization.

2) Governance and Maneuvering:

- How to steer the wheel: course, twists and turns

- Approach to the wind: sailing courses

- Basic maneuvers: Turned and transcluded safely.

- Crew coordination during maneuvers

3) Basic Candle Trimming:

- Adjustment of the main sail and Genoa according to the intensity of the wind.

- Correct use of cleats, halves and cons.

- Principles of efficient navigation: saddle, cross, long and stern.

4) Foundations of Meteorology and Planning.

- Introduction to basic marine meteorology

- Local winds and how they affect our navigation

- Basic planning for a safe exit: wind, tide and environment.

5) Anchorage and Security.

- Practical explanation of anchoring: choice of location, rack and maneuver.

- Essential safety elements: vests, radio, kit, etc.

Who is this course aimed at?

People with no previous experience who want their first sailing lesson.

Qualified navigators (PER, PNB...) who want to strengthen their practical training.

Sea lovers who dream of crossing the Atlantic by sailboat in the future.

Sailing school students looking for a real and applicable approach to the sea, not just sailing on light sailing boats.

Groups of friends, couples or curious people looking for a different nautical activity.

Why is this course different?

All our boats are dispatched to the Maritime Captaincy, registered with Social Security, they comply with the strictest safety measures and our instructor captains are professionals qualified by the Merchant Marine and the Galician Sailing Federation qualified to teach nautical courses, knowledgeable about the Galician coasts and their meteorology.

It's not just a recreational outing: it's real training for you to learn and not just navigate as a passenger. You will leave the port understanding how a sailboat moves, how it reacts to the wind, how to maneuver judiciously... and above all, eager to return to the sea.

In addition, this course is an excellent base if in the future you dare to go on coastal trips or even Atlantic crossings.

Boat details

Our Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36i Performance, has a length of 11 meters.
Capacity for 12 people (6 people overnight), 2 double cabins and a double sofa bed in the living room. The configuration of this model allows for a much larger bathroom with a separate shower with a screen, and also has a separate cabin/storage room that allows for a more organized and comfortable space on the boat.
The boat is equipped for zone 2 (up to 60 miles from the coast).
It is a very fast boat (Performance version with long mast and long keel), with all the manoeuvring in dynema and harken returned to the cockpit piano, making it very easy to navigate and with impressive habitability due to a beam of 3.6 m and its great luminosity.

Its state of conservation and maintenance is very good.
