Depending on wind, weather, and the progress of the trip, we also sail at night using a watch system. Everyone on board is involved in navigation, weather observation, sailing maneuvers, and ship handling. Tides, currents, and heavy shipping traffic make the North Sea challenging to navigate. In the Kiel Canal, we then experience a significant change: instead of open sea, the route takes us right through the heart of Schleswig-Holstein before we continue sailing from Kiel towards Greifswald.
Prior yacht sailing experience is advantageous, but not required. Team spirit, reliability, and a willingness to actively participate in onboard life are essential. This trip is suitable for anyone who wants to log sea miles and explore different sailing areas in one voyage.
At the end of April and beginning of May, the weather on the North and Baltic Seas can still be changeable and cool. Sunny spells are possible, as are strong winds and rain showers. The exact route and possible stopovers will therefore depend on the current conditions.
Sailing is on a 43-foot Beneteau Oceanis. The yacht has three double cabins and one cabin with bunk beds. Its sailing characteristics and comprehensive safety equipment make it a good yacht for extended coastal and offshore passages.
