Check-in on Sunday: Meet and greet at 6pm in Gibraltar
Fly in early so you can go on a Gibraltar Rock tour! Have dinner ashore in Gibraltar and sleep on board Sunday night.
Monday: We will have a safety brief and class on how to prepare the yacht for sea and mooring procedure. The rest of the day will be spent in the bay of Gibraltar which is a perfect sail training exercise area. You will do drills, like sailing a circle to fully understand the different points of sail and sail trim, tacking, gybing, anchoring, boat handling under power and sail, wind awareness, sail trim and man overboard drills etc. The rest of the week is spent perfecting those skills on short passages. Enjoy sailing around the Rock and keep an eye out for dolphins!
Tuesday: Weather permitting, we plan passage to Ceuta, Africa which will be approximately 4-6 hours by sail. Expect passage planning in the morning, tidal navigation and understanding Collision regulations in the shipping lanes of the Straits of Gibraltar, and practicing Mediterranean mooring techniques.
Wednesday: Passage back over the Strait of Gibraltar to Spain. Depending on the wind, we may moor in a number of ports, perhaps the stunning marina of Sotogrande, La Duquesa or Estepona.
Thursday: We will sail to another Spanish port with a possible night sail into the bay of Gibraltar where there are lots of lights, bouys and traffic for the Day Skippers to practice your night navigation skills.
Friday: We will sail back to Gibraltar practicing more exercises like mooring, man overboard skills, etc.
Course ends Friday night, but accommodation is included up to Saturday morning. Optional/free.
